Facebook memories reminded me recently of my first trip to this backcountry area in Banff. I’d love to get back there soon and check to see if my alligator rock is still there or has the water levels changed! Lol

This week I’m spending several days under the night sky since the moon has gtfo-ed. I’ll never all myself a Milky Way purist. I’m not into trackers or even planning. I know where south is and we get what we get. My favourite part of the Milky Way is the tail of the core because the tapering of the tail is the composition for me, not the messy core itself. I’m also not precious about no clouds, for me they add extra flavour to a repeatable recipe.

I’m excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for quite a while.

When I started thinking about offering group photography workshops again, I knew I wanted to do something different. Rather than creating another workshop that rushes from one famous location to the next, I wanted to build an experience that feels more intentional.

That’s where Off The Beaten Path was born.

This is the first in what I hope will become a collection of unique photography adventures that are slower paced, thoughtfully planned, and focused on truly experiencing the places we visit. It’s about spending time in the landscape, adapting to the conditions, and enjoying the journey just as much as the photographs we create.

Our first adventure will take us to one of my favourite places in the Canadian Rockies, the Icefields Parkway.

FALL ON THE PARKWAY

Over five days, we’ll explore everything from colourful aspen forests to alpine meadows and everything in between. We’ll visit a mix of well known locations and quieter places that many people drive right past, giving us the opportunity to slow down, connect with the landscape, and photograph it without feeling rushed.

To make the experience as enjoyable as possible, we’ll stay in one location for the entire workshop. No packing up every morning or changing hotels throughout the week, just one comfortable home base that lets us spend more time photographing and less time travelling.

There are currently only 2 spots left on this small group workshop this September 28 - October 2, 2026.

Just going through my images from a recent trip to the Camargue area in Southern France… and I have to say this dusty evening was my favourite shoot of the week. This was also the evening that we got eaten alive but good things come with some sacrifice. Ours just happened to be a blood sacrifice.

This young horse was posing so pretty and stood so still that I got him sharp even though I had my longer shutter set for motion but I didn’t want to waste time changing settings just incase he moved, which he did right after I got 2 shots off.

This was another amazing adventure with

This photo is 15 years old. I was doing a big loop from Lake Louise through Yoho and then down and through Kootenay and back to Lake Louise on the summer solstice in 2011 a few months after first moving to Lake Louise. I managed to spend time photographing this cinnamon black bear out my sunroof. Every time I drive by this spot, I remember this day.
