Barrie man faces charges in child exploitation investigation
On June 4, 2026, the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) arrested and charged a 57-year-old man from Barrie with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material following a six-month investigation.
The ICE Unit received two reports from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children concerning the distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials via social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Discord.
Following further investigation, the ICE Unit executed a search warrant in May at a residence in the south-end of the city. Several electronic devices belonging to the accused were seized for full forensic analysis, which resulted in the categorization of images and videos of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Tips on how to stay safe on social media are available on the Barrie Police Service website.
