Barrie man faces charges in child exploitation investigation

On June 4, 2026, the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) arrested and charged a 57-year-old man from Barrie with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material following a six-month investigation.

The ICE Unit received two reports from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children concerning the distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials via social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Discord.

Following further investigation, the ICE Unit executed a search warrant in May at a residence in the south-end of the city. Several electronic devices belonging to the accused were seized for full forensic analysis, which resulted in the categorization of images and videos of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Tips on how to stay safe on social media are available on the Barrie Police Service website.

This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

Chief and Mike got into a conversation about a pamphlet that reportedly came home with kids in Barrie, Ontario, about safe drug use.

Chief’s reaction was pretty simple.

When he was in school, the message was always:

“Don’t do drugs.”
“Say no to drugs.”

Now parents are looking at this stuff coming home with their kids and asking what changed, who approved it, and how young is too young for these conversations.

Addiction is real. Education matters. But parents are allowed to be caught off guard when something like this shows up at home.

Watch the clip and tell us what you think.

Is this the right way to educate kids, or has the message gone too far?

IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED AFTER COLLISION WITH HYDRO POLE

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO, ON) - Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a driver with impaired operation following a single-vehicle collision involving a hydro pole.

On June 1, 2026, shortly before 6:00 p.m., police were notified of a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed that had collided with a hydro pole on Adjala-Tecumseth Townline. Officers attended the scene and observed a heavily damaged vehicle and a downed hydro pole with live wires, which ignited a grass fire.

Police spoke with the driver, who did not require medical attention, and observed signs of impairment. Following further investigation, the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 28 year old male from Alliston, has been charged with:

Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration (80 plus)
Dangerous operation
Obstruct peace officer

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford at a later date. Their driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP remains committed to keeping Ontario roads safe from impaired drivers. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1 immediately to report it. You can also provide information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). When you contact Crime Stoppers, you stay anonymous, and you never have to testify.
