“Age is just a number. Mine’s classified.”

Today, I’m another year older and still suspiciously committed to having fun.
.
It feels fitting to reintroduce myself and share a few images/clips that speak to who I am - some more polished than others.
.
Basically, I’m professionally employed and recreationally feral.
.
Here are 6 things about me that may surprise you:
.
1. I teach full-time. My days are spent settling tiny arguments, avoiding flying gym equipment, tying shoes, and getting roasted by 7-year-olds with zero filter.
.
2. I live on a ranch near Okotoks, AB. The weather changes faster than my students’ moods, but the scenery makes up for it.
.
3. I have three dogs, each with their own brand of chaos. Kruz is a Chocolate Heeler and the star of my feed. Blu is a tiny French Bulldog tornado. Groot is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and unofficial farm security.
.
4. I ride daily, in EVERY season. From ripping up a skijor track to exploring the backcountry and chasing cows, I love it all! Rugged mountain terrain, great people, and cool horses are my jam!
.
5. I’ve survived several questionable decisions. 13+ concussions, a major skull fracture, 300+ stitches, and I’m still going. That aside, I’m terrified of snakes, deep dark water, and heights.
6. I love cooking for people, but I’ll NEVER sit down first. You can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll take my hat off at the table, because I was raised with manners.

It’s going to be a busy week. Fortunately, it’s a short one.
There’s always plenty to get done, but not everything needs to be done at once. Hit your to-do list with a discerning eye and a mindset that brings you peace. Some things are worth holding on to and others you can ride on by.

“Some things are better left to burn: the fire, daylight, and excuses to stay inside.”
There’s something about settling into the best seat in the house as the sun fades, the fire catches, and the evening starts to slow down.

“The best kind of warmth comes from the last light of day.”
Somewhere between the last light of day and the first chill of evening, the mountains turn gold. Rocky peaks catch the setting sun, evergreens fall into shadow, and that last glow of light leaves you wanting a little more.
When you wrap yourself in Wanakome, it feels like you’re carrying a layer of that sunlight with you. My pal Neil Hawryluk is pretty cozy here, basking in the evening sun with Flash.

Cooler mornings. Crisp evenings. Longer stretches of time outside without an entire army of insects trying to make a meal out of you.
I love summer but I’ll gladly give-up a few degrees if it means fewer flying, biting, buzzing as****es launching coordinated attacks.
Let’s embrace the cooler temps, the changing light, and far fewer bugs.

“Every day is a good day to find out how much chaos you can saddle.”
This series makes me smile. Some are motionless and calm, others have just the right amount of movement. With the first day of school coming in hot, I thought these images would make a fun comparison.
What will the first day back in class be:
A - Smooth sailing. The kids come in calm, cool, and collected. We settle in with ease.
B – Classroom Rodeo. There’s a lot going on and things are a bit chaotic.

Some days call for a light layer. Others demand something a little more rugged. In the backcountry, the weather has a way of changing its mind whenever it damn well pleases.
Honestly, where we roam, good gear doesn’t need a season. It simply needs to be ready. The forecast is only part of the story.

“A good life is built on hard work and knowing when to enjoy the ride.”
There’s a lot to be said for working hard, but there’s also value in knowing when to slow down and enjoy what you’ve worked for.
Honestly, a happy life isn’t about choosing between work and play. It’s about finding a balance that works. Pursue work that you enjoy, make time to play, and appreciate each of the days in between.

There’s something about the high country that makes you want to breathe a little deeper and stay a little longer. With refreshing gusts of wind and slight hints of fall, it’s hard not to anticipate a change in season.
