Today ACTUALLY feels like SPRING but I forgot to share pictures of my winter mantle 🙈 I'm sorry for dragging you back there but I did love it and it was a bright spot in what felt like the loooooongest winter ever ;) Velvet and candles for coziness, a thrifted winter painting, pretty books, and of course, a ceramic dog (or two). Do whatever brings you joy, whatever the season.

Some of the paint colours you'll find around our home. I LOVE colour. It brings joy and life to a space. And guess what?...

I may have mentioned this before but when we moved into our house nearly five years ago we painted everything WHITE. Irish Mist (by ) to be exact. I needed a clean slate, breathing space after the craziest two years of our lives. Our dining room did not escape the onslaught of white. A year after that we (and by we, I mean Jay) hung an amazing large print floral wallpaper (Blossom by ) and there the room stayed. More of an afterthought. It hadn’t changed at all since.

This winter was a creative barren wasteland for me. I had no desire or energy to do anything. Enter end of February… the small promise of spring and I bought five blue paint samples, threw them up on the wall in different spots, and in the span of one weekend, this room was transformed. I painted the walls a warm, soft blue (which is hard as blue can be so cold) called Dusted Blue and then updated the hutch with it’s third coat of paint (poor thing) in Norwegian Blue by ). We also replaced the light fixture (the last one was awful… who picked that? Oh yes… me) with a simple gold chandelier from I topped it all off with some favourite books and a few plates that have been collecting dust in my basement.

I love it. It’s a much cosier and inviting space. What do you think?

I will always be over here embracing the heritage colours with a bit if whimsy 🍒
