Adopted as Ontario's floral emblem in 1937.
A single, three-petaled white flower above a whorl of three broad leaves. The petals fade to pale pink as the bloom ages. Grows in deciduous forests, woodlands, and rich, moist soil across eastern North America, with a strong presence in southern and central Ontario.
It is illegal to pick, dig up, or damage white trilliums in provincial parks and on public conservation lands (Ontario's Floral Emblem Act offers some protection, though not for private property). Represents peace, hope, and recovery—fitting for a flower that takes many years to bloom they almost always mean the white trillium, a delicate, threefold treasure of the spring woods.
