In general, I find much of Egypt to be a little bit overwhelming. The crowds and the aggressive vendors can be a lot to take in for first-time visitors.

In the Western Desert, all of that gets stripped back. Conversations flow easily, history is a little less fenced off, and, my God! the landscapes. They're just jaw-dropping.

I'm happy to share some of my favourite photographs from my two visits to this remote region of Egypt.

While my travels in the Galapagos Islands took up the bulk of my visit to Ecuador, I still had the chance to experience some of the marvels of the rest of the country.

One of the most special visits was to Cotopaxi National Park where Christina, the boys, and I spent the night at Hotel Tambopaxi and got a chance to see some of Cotopaxi's famous wild horses.

Oh, and then there's that beautiful volcano, that a friend once stated was the most beautiful summit that she had ever stood upon.

You know those places that you dreamed of as a kid, but figured you’d “never get the chance to see?” For me, one of those places was the Galapagos Islands.

This dramatic volcanic chain was so remote. Tied to some of the world’s greatest explorers, and one of the most important scientific discoveries of all time, the Galapagos seemed almost mythical.

I did not go to Churchill, Manitoba, with the right collection of lenses for capturing the town's resident polar bears. But I did have the right one for capturing the northern lights!
Setting myself up near Churchill's iconic inukshuk gave an awesome foreground with Hudson Bay and the dark sky in the background.

Within the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a glass tunnel that offers some of the wildest views of polar bears that I've ever seen.
My boys were absolutely stunned as these massive animals floated effortlessly above them. It was hard to imagine that just a few days later, we would see these animals in the wild up in Churchill.
