Images taken around 7pm on Sunday, July 12. These show the level of floodwaters and how it affects Grand Valley road, including Wheat City Golf Course, Turtle Crossing, and the bypass at #1 highway. As of 7am Monday morning, the city announced that the river crested overnight and has stabilized and will be receding, but could be affected by additional rainfall.

It's really hard to look at scenes like this in our beautiful city and province, but it's incredibly important to take a step outside of our own circles; see things close up and at high levels to gain different perspectives. Large-scale situations like this require immense trust. Trust in the systems we produce, the people we put in charge, and those working hard on the ground to keep issues in check to the best of our collective abilities. Doing everything we can to help as many people as we can is what a strong and vigilant community does.

Iceland doesn’t do “consistent.” It does contrast.

One minute the light is razor sharp—cutting across snow like it was designed to show every ridge, every line, every scar in the landscape. The next, it’s diffused into something soft and atmospheric, flattening everything into tone and mood. Sun, cloud, wind, snow—it all reshapes the same place over and over again.

Nothing here stays the same long enough to get comfortable. That’s the point.

The light isn’t just illumination—it’s the subject. It defines the land as much as the land defines it. Harsh when it wants to be. Gentle when it feels like it. Always clean. Always honest.

Time of day doesn’t matter. Season doesn’t matter. Weather definitely doesn’t matter.
