After several weeks of unpredictable weather with fluctuating temperatures, a cold spell begins today. Each day promises snow and very low temperatures! I plan to start a new session today. Meanwhile, I’m sharing a Stellar Dendrite crystal I photographed on January 3rd.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday, ❄️

❄️Twinkling Twins❄️

These two perfect, real snow crystals landed together on my glass plate, and I immediately held my breath due to their stunning beauty. These are the moments I realize why I am doing this. Standing outside in frigid temperatures. Not to share them here, but to experience them and see them with my own eyes through my macro lens. Wondering if the next crystal will even be prettier. And often they are! The frozen gifts that land on my glass plate that exist only for a few minutes are enough encouragement for me to continue this weird hobby 😃❄️😄

❄️Three Crystals❄️

I love finding snowflakes which consist of multiple intact snow crystals. Typically, snowflakes are pretty messy, with numerous fragments and debris attached. But this little flake, made of one large stellar dendrite-type crystal and two smaller ones, was a beauty! Photographed on January 3rd, 2026, in the 1000 Islands Region, Ontario, Canada.

❄️More snow to come❄️

I am still processing images from the last two snowflake photography sessions, and I keep finding crystals worth sharing here on Instagram. This year is already more successful than last year, with better conditions for snowflake photography. In fact, as I type this post, I receive a sensor alert indicating that my backyard studio is cold enough for another session. Now I have to check the quality of the snowflakes. I hope they are perfect ❄️😃. To be continued!

❄️Superbly Stylish❄️

I loved finding this crystal on my glass plate. Everything about it is perfect. The size, shape, and symmetry. Look at that flower shape in the centre, and then the ornamental branches. Like Jugendstil and Art Deco combined in one shape. Very inspiring for my other hobby... painting.

❄️Tranquility ❄️

Snowflake photography allows me to focus on these delicate beauties, providing a peaceful escape from the chaos of the outside world. In my winter studio, I find solace and a moment of tranquillity, capturing fleeting wonders that warm my heart.

❄️Symmetry - Asymmetry ❄️

Although this crystal is quite messy and asymmetrical in the centre, the ends of the branches are beautiful and detailed. All in all, I am happy with this find.

I captured this snow crystal on January 3rd. Most pictures I take at night. The best crystals are in the beginning or at the end of the snow squall. The quality of the crystals can change in seconds. This is how I like to find them. Isolated, symmetrical and undamaged.

✨️❄️ Unexpected Snow ❄️✨️

I had different plans for yesterday, but seeing the super cold fluffy snow, I decided I had to go outside and bring my camera instead. I loved how single crystals fluttered down on my glass plate and I captured many of them during a full morning of snow crystal photography. These are the unexpected things in life I like.
