New Episode — The Crash Clock
A new episode of Northern Latitudes is out today — and it's one that's been on our minds since we hit stop on the recording.
Prof. Samantha Lawler is an astronomer at the University of Regina who studies the outer edges of our solar system. But over the last few years, she's become one of the most important voices in Canada on what's happening much closer to home: in the belt of sky just above our heads where thousands of satellites now orbit, with thousands more on the way.
The conversation covers the "crash clock" — her research showing how quickly the risk of a catastrophic satellite collision is growing. It covers the atmospheric effects of thousands of satellites burning up each year. It covers debris landing on Saskatchewan farms. And it ends with a genuine note of hope, which surprised us both.

Coming Soon: A Familiar Voice with an Extraordinary Story

My next guest is a household name — a voice many Canadians grew up with. In this upcoming episode, he reflects on a lifetime of curiosity, discovery, and saying yes to the unknown.

This one’s special. You’ll know who it is the moment he speaks. It’s not often I get to interview a Canadian icon.

Episode drops November 17th— stay tuned.
