Some ardguable over-sharing on an auspicious anniversary:

Today is two years to the day since the intial heart attack followed by cardiac surgery - and still on daily IV antibiotics & antifungals, bodacious pain meds, daily VON visits, standing appointments with 3 different doctors and (what remains) a bullet-sized hole* in my chest down to the bone.

*One of my ribs vibrates like a tuning fork when the nurse cleans the wound - very weird.

That said, at one point I left a (shudder) different department of the QE2 with 5 different simultaneous infections, so progress is progress - we’re down to 2.

Just for giggles, there’s also an upcoming MRI to locate possible additional sternal osteomyolitis that may be eroding some of the bone/cartilage that remains - and a possible additional surgical intervention.

We joke with the plastic surgeon who (thankfully) took over my case that given the number of times my chest has been sliced open, he should just install a zipper to save time. That said, the man IS a genius with a scalpel.

For the curious, the purple and green parts below are the issue. Mine basically look like a puzzle an unattended puppy went medieval on.

What a ride baby…

One of my fave shoots we did for a client about your critter(s) and parasite prevention. It wasn’t used in the end, but we had a ball in my assistant’s newly renovated kitchen (thanks Ash & Sondra). Our models included Collette, a cat named “Turd”, and one very over-worked “Alien” figurine. See if you can spot all his (her?) ‘cameos’ in the shot. BTW - Turd was a rockstar.

Loki got some free acupuncture from a young porcupine that wandered into the yard looking to make friends (that’s Loki’s story). On return from Central Nova Animal Hospital and their ‘I see Jimmy Hendrix’ juice, he wanted out to lay in his fave spot.

It started to pour - and this is how is mom found him.

As an FYI - if you’re getting IVs at home (or in hospital) at this time of year, acquire a poncho - or have a loving family member (thanks sis) slice a over-sized fleece into one.

Your arms are free for IVs, blood draws and PICC dressing changes - and your anemic a** avoids wrestling with a blanket or sweatshirt every 30 sec in the process.

My sister made me one last winter when I was freezing my tuckus off in the QE2 (while shaking like a gremlin on m**h with an infection) and it made a world of difference.

A difference it continues to make this winter as we carry with the daily IVs amidst the sequel to “Winter War: Anemic Husband vs. Wife of a Certain Age” ;>

15 Months & Counting…

Changing the bag in my ‘med station’ garbage, I felt weirdly compelled to snap this pic as two thing hit me:

1) It’s #$%^&’ing hard to believe it’s been 15 months and counting of daily antibiotic & antifungal IVs, multi-weekly dressing changes and daily (now 3/wk) VON visits - and the daily recovery process, for me, after getting same.

2) The sheer waste generated by the above with all the IVs bags, tubing, and multiple saline flushes before, between, and after each IV (plus the Heprin ‘topper’), the PICC and negative-pressure dressing materials, drug bottles, sterile field kits, etc, etc.

All that being, said, it is VERY nice to finally be getting my hand ‘back on a camera’ doing shoots, getting creative and meeting some great models - human and critter.

Also - all hats off to the local , they deserve more praise than I can give in a mere post, as without exception, I’ve never seen such a great group of professional & caring nurses.

Being willing to tolerate our senses of humour and the noisy presence of our two furry monsters earns them extra credits as well.

Oh, I almost forgot - all praise to (unofficial) ‘Nurse Heather’ - (a.k.a ‘Bossy Nurse Ratchet’ ;>). I think she’s developing a fall-back career in medicine if this whole Finance thing gets too annoying.

No Photoshop, just excellent doggos and training. Blow up and view the images in sequence for the ‘story’. An older sequence of images done as a pun on training for Russell Lake Animal Hospital starring Dr. Barkai and the Little White Schoolhouse Museum in Truro. Thanks to the dogs, it took us longer to move the schoolhouse desks aside than to capture the images. Pay the museum a visit.

We just wanted to welcome Galaxy Vets https://www.facebook.com/truroveturgentcare to the area and congratulate them on their recent grand opening. Without question, their expertise and business model will be more than welcome by area critter owners.

MacGyvering 3hrs a day since Apl ‘24 (no, not a typo) with some lighting gear.

For those medically inclined, the larger bag is Caspogungin (post-surgical bone/blood fungal infection) and the smaller currently* Daptomycin (post-surgical bone/blood bacterial infection).

*It has been Vancomycin and PIPTAZ in the past.
