Turns out, 10 minutes is plenty.

Three kids, a lot of laughing and not a pose in sight. Just them being their hilarious little selves while I catch it.

And then you make it GIANT and put it in the kitchen.

More proof that ‘Take 10’ Signature B&W Session works pretty much anywhere. And yes, I can get your kids to do this too. . .

This is pretty much what a session with me looks like. 😂

We talk. I ask the kids ridiculous questions, we crack jokes, they tell me things, I tell them things and somewhere in there I’m taking pictures. There’s really not much more to it.

These two were absolutely cracking up and we had such a fun time together, which is always my favourite because this is the stuff I want to photograph. Not the perfect smile. Them.

And then you put those faces up this big on your wall and I mean… how could you not?

Ten minutes is plenty of time when everyone’s just having fun. . .

Dark Sessions make REALLY great holiday photos.

Not holiday themed photos. Just really cool photos of your kids that also happen to look incredible on a holiday card.

Their favourite jeans. A great tee. Sneakers. Whatever feels like them right now. The dark background does all the work and somehow makes everything feel a little more 👌.

And then when the holidays are over, you have photos you actually want hanging in your house all year.

We’re going back to our roots. 🤍

The white background is one of our OG Take 10 looks. We started with black + white and added colour about a year later, so I think we can officially call this one an OG too. And I still love it.

There’s just something about a really simple portrait of your kid that never gets old. No elaborate set, nothing competing for attention, just them.

And then you put it on a wall and THIS happens. 👉 Swipe to see this little guy in a giant gallery frame in the most beautiful living room. It’s exactly why I’ve always loved these sessions. They’re 10 minutes, they’re easy, and the images can live pretty much anywhere in your home.

Big, small, living room, bedroom, kitchen… they just work. Sometimes simple really is the best.

Got a kid who wants to try modelling or acting?

Having a kid who’s gotten into modelling, runway and acting has been a bit of a crash course for me.

This weekend that somehow meant New York City, shooting for a designer and walking a runway. Very cool for him. Also very cool for his mom. ❤️

And somewhere along the way I realized I actually have a lot to share with parents who have looked at their own kid and thought… hmmm. I wonder if they could do this?

Because where do you even start? What photos do you need? Do you need an agent? What are agencies actually looking for? What do you submit? What’s legit? What’s not? And does your kid need a whole portfolio before you even knock on the door?

Spoiler: no.

I’ve spent years photographing kids, and now I’ve spent a whole lot of time on the other side too, navigating agencies, submissions, castings, runway and all the stuff I knew absolutely nothing about before we started. And trust me, you can get changed a lot unnecessarily by the wrong agencies.

So I’m going to start offering a few simple agency submission shoots for kids through Collective Photo Co. with a reputable agency that can answer questions. You’ll get the first five shots you’ll need for submission and a whole lot of advice from the industry’s finest.

If you’ve had that little voice saying maybe my kid could do this… DM me.

Give her the bedroom of her dreams.
And make her the art.

A few simple changes can completely transform the space:

— one ridiculously oversized piece of art
— make her the art
— pull a couple of colours from the photograph into pillows + textiles
— keep everything else simple
— hang it BIG. Bigger than you think.

And suddenly her room feels cooler, more grown up, more her.

The best part? Imagine being a girl and walking into your bedroom every day to see yourself like this.

Strong. Artistic. Interesting. Confident. Completely incredible.

That’s what I love about these portraits. The session is ten minutes. What happens with the photographs afterwards is the whole point.

Turns out our ‘Take 10’ Sessions look pretty good at the lake.

We set up our Limited Edition ‘Take 10’ Dark Sessions 𝑻𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒏 in Port Carling and photographed the cutest little crew of summer with their braids, lake hair, water-ski stories, tan lines, ice cream faces and whatever else they happened to bring in off the dock.

Basically, all the evidence of a summer very well spent.

Honestly, this was the greatest. Can we do everything in Muskoka now? ❤️ . .

Today, my youngest guy turns 12. It’s hard to put into words what it means to be your mom. I often describe you as “therapy” and boy is it ever true. Your kindness and calm are your superpower. And your innate desire to see the best in people and to stand up and advocate for things that matter a lot is something that will follow you through your life and bless all the lucky people around you. Buddy, our tv dates and walks to the lake are some of my favorite life moments. Thanks for still holding my hand and for always being so awesome. ❤️ . .
