Erin Crossman Photography

Erin Crossman Photography Portrait and Fine Art Photography Erin Crossman is a graduate of York University, Toronto Ontario, graduating with a Specialized Honours degree in Visual arts.

She loves to paint with her camera so to speak, using the light and atmosphere to do so. Coming to photography from a painting and drawing background has given her a more unique and artistic way of capturing her subjects. Erin Crossman has spent her life with animals and exploring the beauty of the woods and countryside. She started working with horses at 13 years old and worked with them for year

s before turning her love of animals to dogs and dog training. She is also the mother of 2 boys. These experiences have given her a firsthand knowledge of how animals and children are when they are just being natural and themselves. Erin prides herself on capturing that feel, not the typical cookie cutter image and this is where Erin Crossman shines as a photographer. Her images most often give the feel she is not there intruding and we see a very intimate view of the subject. Erin prefers to shoot in natural light and outdoors whenever possible or suitable. However Erin will comfortably use lights and shoot indoors if this is what the client is looking for. She is also able to shoot other subjects as asked, and has shot such subjects as old farm properties, dog sports, weddings, parties and events. Photos are taken out on a variety of outdoor locations, suitable to the client’s preference or in the client’s home or business. Erin has a very calm relaxed attitude able to help put her subjects at ease during a shoot. This is critical especially when working with animals and children.

Here's your reminder to book the shoot!
So often people talk to me and say they are interested in a shoot but then never get around to it. We all lead busy lives but I promise you that you will never regret having done the photos.
I take a lot of photos of my own children (when they agree to participate!) and animals, both to practice new things but also just for me. They hang on the walls of my home, they are the lock screen on my phone and the screen on my desktop computer.
Here is a older photo of my Haflinger Jack. Now that he is gone the photos mean even more to me. I will never get to take a new one. I will never regret all the time spent with him, like this photo, wandering around the field with him at sunset, chatting to him and snapping a few pics.

Spotlight!
If you have ever had an equine photo shoot with me, or come to my show or markets chances are that you have met Liz.
Not only is Liz one of my closest friends but she is assistant extraordinaire! She is behind the scenes helping me with the marketing and business end of things but also the best horse wrangler! Years back we spent many late nights at the barn perfecting the "moonlight" shoots with our own horses and all those hours have given us a good working understanding of what I am trying to shoot and her ability to get the horse to pose. Liz also travelled twice with me to The Wild Horse Sanctuary spending long hours hiking in the mountains packing equipment with me into those hills in search of horses.
Here's to many miles travelled, many hours of photography and so much laughter. I couldn't do it with out you! My heartfelt thank you Liz. 🩷

Behind the scenes!
I don't always or often shoot with backdrops but sometimes it's what I want. This is usually done inside with lights but once in awhile shooting outdoors with natural light and a backdrop gives me what I'm looking for.
Here you can see my 6 year old border collie, Bodhi, patiently waiting to be directed. He is the best model. He loves to pose and does a great job at it. Anytime I want to try something new, he is up for whatever I ask of him. Little sister Dharma, 1 year old, is learning the ropes and seems to be just as enthusiastic. I had to take this picture the other day, as she had me laughing. She was determined to be a part of things!

Wild Horses at Sunset.
Sometimes I go back through older photos, I have literally thousands that never been seen by anyone but me. When I do a shoot I pick a couple photos to share and then the rest stay on hard drives. For some reason I have a hard time sharing photos after the fact. I'm not sure why. But today I need solace, the horses bring me that. There is nothing more beautiful in my eyes than horses running free.
Maybe it is time to dust off the old hard drives and let some older work see the light of day!

I love high key images. The snow makes for great photos in many regards. Here Sage gets frisky in the fresh snow!
