Recently, at a fave pet store of ours, my kids went over to greet a young woman and her 3 absolutely beautiful dogs.
Our 8 month old puppy is a bit reactive with other dogs on initial greetings, so we were practicing our calm watching, her focus command, and purposeful ignoring together just a few meters away.
From where we stood, I could hear are my kids, happy, saying “our dog has a tik tok!” in response to the woman mentioning her dogs having instagram. This woman responded with “yeah, but does it have 12k followers?” 🤯
My KIDS were simply trying to relate with this woman and converse naturally with her while greeting her dogs. If she didn’t want greetings she could have turned them away when they asked to say hello.
Imagine if she responded with “oh that’s so fun! What kind of videos does your dog post?” Or a simple “I bet that’s a lot of fun”…… or just about ANYTHING other than “does your dog have 12k followers”. She could have actually INFLUENCED my kids with healthy conversation vs just showing off.
Our TikTok videos of Bean aren’t awesome, like, I am just a still photographer folks, video isn’t my skill ahahaha….if Bean ever gets 12k followers it would be a shock….. but that was never our plan, desire or purpose…
We just want to see people smile and laugh. Be it at a silly video of our own dog, or in the art you hang from our photo sessions together…. It’s simply not a popularity contest over here.
We straight up are just a family that loves animals, especially dogs.
I hope to have the chance to meet more folks that simply just love dogs too, and hopefully take their photos one day!
