Meaghan Baxter Photography Published Portrait, Wedding & Commercial Photographer based in Calgary, AB.

I'm a published photographer and writer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and I’m here to tell your story. I'm always up for taking on new challenges, bringing a concept to life, pushing boundaries, and travelling anywhere in the world. I strive to bring out each client’s inner beauty, personality, and individual style—whether it's soft and ethereal, edgy and alternative, or anything in-between.

I love capturing natural, candid moments and collaborating with my clients to ensure their photos are a true reflection of who they are. I enjoy shooting on-location—from exploring the city to going on a trek in the mountains at sunrise—as well studio work. My career began in journalism, and I spent five years working for Vue Weekly—Edmonton’s weekly independent news, music, and arts publication—where I worked my way up from Staff Writer to Managing Editor. It was there that I honed my written and visual storytelling abilities, whether it was interviewing and photographing some of the top musicians in the world or a local hero making the city a better place. My work has also been published in the Globe & Mail, Avenue Magazine, Bo***ir Culture Magazine, Beatroute, Confetti, Daily Hive, Exclaim!, the Edmonton Journal, Fast Forward Weekly, and freq magazine. Storytelling continues to be at the heart of my photography, from branding to weddings, and I look forward to telling yours.

Today marks four years since I went full-time with photography. It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. The entrepreneur rollercoaster is real, but the highs have outweighed the lows, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.

I’ve learned a lot over the past four years (sometimes the hard way), so I thought I’d share four of the biggest lessons:

- Save more than you think you need for taxes. It’s never fun finding out you owe more than planned.
- Invest in people who can make your business better. One person can’t do it all, and paying an expert to help you will save you hours of headache.
- Respect your own boundaries. I’ll admit this is a work in progress for me, but I’m getting better at it.
- Balance is key. Again, this will always be a work in progress, but I’ve realized I can’t work endlessly and still show up for everyone in my life.

Can’t wait for this wedding later this year!
When we work together, I don’t just show up the day of your wedding. I want to hear all about your plans, vision, and what’s important to you. I also want you to actually experience your wedding, so we’ll work on a timeline that does that. You can also reach out to me any time with questions or to show me things. I get excited for my couples too, and it’s always fun to get photos do your dress, decor inspo, and other details.

Thank you to for featuring this fun anniversary session! Jory and Chad wanted to celebrate year one of marriage with photos around their first home together, so we went to their rooftop patio and a couple of spots in their neighbourhood.

Jory repurposed her custom tulle skirt by that was originally part of her wedding dress and wore it over a white skirt for a completely new look. I love how she incorporated it!

Scroll to the end to see the other star of the show and true queen of the house, their adorable cat Minou.

My biggest piece of advice for your ceremony: stay present. It goes by so quickly and marks a huge milestone for the two of you, so soak it all in. Don’t worry about whether your photographer is getting all the important moments (I promise we are), let the emotions happen (real laughs and smiles make for the best photos), or anything else. It’s your moment, enjoy it.

There can also be pressure to have an epic exit (think picture-perfect dip kiss). If you want to do one, or anything else, talk to your partner beforehand and practice. Dips aren’t as effortless as they look! Make sure you’re parallel to your photographer rather than dipping towards us, otherwise we’ll just get the tops of your heads. And if you’d rather skip anything elaborate, that’s ok too. Do what feels best to you, not something unnatural for the sake of a photo.

Ten-year anniversary photos in Julia and Jesse’s “backyard” in downtown Vancouver. They wanted to incorporate the scenery they see every day and the neighbourhood they’ve turned into their home since moving from Alberta.

Personal touches always add to sessions, whether it’s a place you both enjoy, your first home together, where you had your first date, an heirloom or anything else that had meaning. It’s these details that make photos feel like “you”.

Since the snow is sticking around I thought it was still fitting to share some winter-y photos from this sweet proposal session out at Two Jack Lake. Proposals are always fun to capture — I’m good at being stealthy and have never had anyone catch on to what was happening. Let’s chat if you’re planning to pop the question. After the actual proposal we’ll spend some time taking photos of the two of you. Think of it like a mini engagement session.

Another set from The Baroque Social workshop hosted by Nicole Ashley. This one made me want to switch to continuous lights over strobes and invest in a dark floral backdrop.

There were also two interactive elements to the day — a vision board session and on-site flash tattoos by . Did I need another tattoo? No. Did I get one? Absolutely.
