🐄 Side Quest Number 40: A day on a Hutterite dairy farm.

Today Rotary took us somewhere I probably never would’ve gone on my own… a behind-the-scenes tour of a Hutterite colony and dairy farm.

I learned how the dairy operation works, met some very curious cows (one definitely wanted to be famous 😂), and got a reminder that adventure doesn’t always require a passport.

Sometimes the best memories come from saying yes to something that’s completely outside your normal routine.

That’s what Side Quests are all about. Tiny adventures. New conversations. Different perspectives. You never know what you’ll learn… or who you’ll meet.

A huge thank you to Rotary Club of YYC Heritage for organizing another unforgettable experience, and to the High River Hutterite Colony for welcoming us, sharing your way of life, and answering all of our questions. We really appreciated your hospitality.

Acceptance doesn’t mean giving up. It means giving yourself permission to keep moving forward.

Some days my disability asks more of me than others. Today was one of those days.

I had an incredible time on a Hutterite colony farm tour, but after lunch, my body let me know it was time to call it a day.

Years ago, I would have pushed through because I didn’t want anyone to see me struggle. Today, I know that asking for support and using my cane gives me the freedom to keep saying yes to adventures.

We never truly know what someone is carrying behind closed doors. A little kindness and understanding can go a long way.

Acceptance isn’t the end of the story. Sometimes it’s the beginning of the next chapter.

All you need is one step forward. ❤️

We all have chapters that people never see.

This one was difficult to share, but if it helps even one person feel seen, understood, or inspired to stop waiting for “someday,” then it’s worth it.

My disability is part of my story, but it has never been the end of it. I’ve learned that life is too precious to spend waiting for the “perfect” time.

Whether your next chapter is your first solo trip, a bucket list adventure, or simply saying yes to something you’ve been putting off…

Take the step. Take the leap. Your next chapter is waiting. ❤️

Hi, I’m Jen. 👋

I’m a travel agent, photographer, Rotarian, HOTWORX lover, cat mom, and someone who’s lucky enough to have explored 40 countries (and counting).

But that’s only part of the story.

What you don’t always see is the little girl who lost her dad at four. The moments that made me question who I was. The seasons where I completely lost myself. The setbacks, heartbreak, trauma, health challenges, and all the times I had to rebuild from the ground up.

For a long time I thought life was something that happened to me.

Now I choose to create it.

That doesn’t mean life is perfect. It means I’ve learned that healing isn’t one giant leap. It’s thousands of tiny decisions. One coffee with a friend. One workout. One weekend away. One passport stamp. One uncomfortable conversation. One tiny side quest.

Over the next little while, I’m going to share more of my story. The good, the messy, and everything in between. Not because I have all the answers, but because maybe something I’ve learned will help someone else take their own first step.

Because that’s exactly why I’m building something I’ve been quietly working on.

🍦 Side Quest 2.0: Dairy Queen Blizzard Run ✔️

A little July check in…

The last few weeks have been a reminder that health can change in an instant. It’s made me appreciate the ordinary days a whole lot more.

Life is ridiculously short. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time to take the trip, grab the Blizzard, call your friend, watch the sunset, or say yes to the random adventure. Those little moments are what end up becoming the stories you tell.

So here’s your reminder to complete one small side quest this week. It doesn’t have to be expensive or far away. It just has to make you feel alive. 💙

And just like that… Stampede 2026 is in the books. 🤠❤️

Even after a recent hospital visit, I was determined to get back out there, reconnect with people, and soak up everything that makes Stampede week so much fun.

From networking events and parties to my absolute favourite Stampede breakfasts, this week reminded me how much I love this city and the incredible people in it.

These 10 selfies are a little snapshot of the laughs, conversations, and moments that made this week one to remember. I’m so grateful for everyone who took a few minutes to catch up, share a coffee, or simply say hello.
