Heather Chapin.Photography About Heather Chapin

I am a journalist, photographer, and visual storyteller that is based out of Vancouver, B.C.

With a background in journalism and photojournalism, I approach every story with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to ethical storytelling. I’ve worked with individuals, nonprofits, and media outlets to help bring important stories to light—stories that build understanding, challenge assumptions, and inspire connection. My work is grounded in a deep respect for the communities and people I docu

ment. I focus on real people—true, human, and often overlooked. Whether I am capturing long-form narratives or everyday moments; I aim for my work to reflect care, creativity and intention. I have worked across a wide range of environments—from personal portraits to in-depth editorial assignments and fast-paced events including professional sports. These experiences have made me a well-rounded and adaptable photographer capable of documenting anyone and anything with sensitivity, and the desire to learn and approach my work with purpose. I believe in photography not just as art, but as a tool for listening, witnessing, and amplifying voices that need to be heard. If you’re looking for someone to document your project, community, or story with honesty and heart—I’d love to connect.

A hazard of being in my world means that I often forget that other people can’t see through my eyes and into my thoughts and heart. I realize that not everyone understands the language of me. Some people think I’m delusional, others think I could really make a difference in the world.

It’ all narrows down to perspective. If not everyone can perceive me the way I want to be understood and perceived, I also do not always perceive people for who they are authentically to themselves.

How can I change my interactions with people to perceive them as who they really are? What biases and perspectives are creating a barrier for full hearted acceptance of each individual?

My experience is no different than any one else. I can relate to people in a way that is purely human.

Imagine how our interactions would be different if we all could take off our normal person mask and see people for who they are, the instrinsic values that they hold.

When I look at people, I forget that I am not the only one who sees through people’s eyes and into their feelings, their human.
