Trisha Raposo Photo Calgary Documentary Family and Portrait Photographer

Let's skip the things about family photos that everyone hates about family photos

I am a documentary family photographer located in Calgary, Alberta, offering "Day In The Life" photo sessions. A Day In The Life is in-home documentary photography available in full day (8 hours), half day (5 hours) or mini sessions (3 hours). My goal is to spend a day with your family in order to get a meaningful glimpse into what this chapter of your life looks like. I won't be an invisible fly

on the wall, I will be a guest in your home. I will take lots of photos, of course, but I will also interact, take breaks, chat, get to know you and play with the kids. After a bit of time, everyone will be quite used to me being there, and that is when the magic happens. Nothing is staged or posed (unless we take a minute for a quick portrait). You may go to the park, play games, put littles down for naps, wipe tears, tidy up...the more ordinary the better. At the end of it, you will have a collection of photos that tells the unique story of this phase of your family's life.

I'm so grateful to get to spend time with families and have the opportunity to try and capture the connection and dynamics of those powerful relationships.
No one needs to tell you that motherhood isn't easy but I hope you feel at least a bit of the love and adoration that your children feel for you today. When I look through your photos after a session I see it so, so clearly! Happy Mother's Day and thank you for the honor of witnessing these moments in your motherhood! πŸ’•

Sharing some fall family photos as we gear up for spring. I love relaxed sessions like this one - we got the posed shots out of the way first, then spent the rest of our time together playing and exploring. Family photos don't have to feel like a chore πŸ₯°

πŸ“£ New on the blog- How to Make Family Photos Easier

As a follow-up to last month's post about WHY we take yearly photos, you'll find my tricks for HOW we pull it off.

There can be so many barriers to taking regular family photos including budget, scheduling, getting your partner and/or kids on board, picking clothes for everyone, etc. Here I'm giving the top tips I've learned over the years for how to minimize the preparation needed and overcome the obstacles that keep many families from booking and enjoying photo day.

One of my secrets to making family photos easy is when we schedule them. For us, fall is ideal for many reasons. In addition to the beautiful scenery, I love that all of my back-to-school prep means we are already 90% ready for photos. The kids have had recent haircuts, their clothes and shoes fit reasonably well and we are back to a regular and more predictable schedule. While this can feel like one of the busiest times of year, it also means that so much of the hard work is already done!

If you want to take advantage of all that prep you've done to get the kids ready for the school year, I still have openings for Fall Minis πŸ‚

With all the other things going on for your family this time of year, you may wonder whether it is worth it to also try to schedule family photos. It can feel like a lot to take on. Before we talk about how to make family photos easier (that post is coming next!), take a look back at some of my fami...

When it's time for a maternity session, please bring along the whole crew and let's play! We'll get those classic solo portraits, but we'll also capture images that feel like a beautiful snapshot of this fleeting chapter of life. This sweet family was up for anything and the soon-to-be big brother had a blast exploring with his pup in tow!

It's time to book your fall family photos! πŸ‚
It's hard to believe that we're halfway through summer (especially on a cold, rainy day like today lol) but it's true!
I'm so excited to be offering 3 dates at 3 beautiful locations for family portraits.
Fri, Sept 26 in Kananaskis
Sat, Sept 27 at Carburn Park
Fri, Oct 3 at Fish Creek
These sessions are playful and relaxed, 20 minutes long to ensure we have time to get those classic portraits but with our focus on fun, movement and connection.
➑️ New this year - streamlined online booking that includes a short questionnaire and contract for less back and forth and fewer emails clogging up your inbox πŸ™Œ
I recommend hopping on soon to get your first choice for times and locations.
Have a question? Drop it in the comments πŸ‘‡ or send me a DM

When one of your best friends is your oldest brother and he's been gone at day camp, you're not letting him go ❀️
It's so funny chatting with other parents about family size.
Almost every conversation centers around the fact that the families we've created don't look exactly how we pictured they would.
My husband and I said we wanted 3 or 4 kids...we have 5 πŸ˜‚
I wanted to space them pretty close (but not too close) -our smallest gap is 18 months and our biggest is 4.5 years πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
I started having kids when I was 25 and wanted to be done before turning 35. When my youngest was born I was 37 🀰
I could look at our family structure with all of its challenges and say, "I was too young when I started and too old when I stopped. When my oldest is finishing school my youngest will just be starting, that's crazy! How will I ever get my career really going when I'm perpetually raising young children?" And honestly, sometimes I do say all of that πŸ« πŸ˜†
But then moments like this happen and I remember that this is literally my dreams come true. I didn't create a perfect life and then drop children into it. We are creating a life together. It's imperfect and it's messy, often loud, and requires lots of forgiveness and repair. But holy cow it's beautiful, and these relationships are the bedrock of every other wish I have for my children.

One more Mother's Day post for you! I seriously loved these sessions and can't wait to offer them again next year. I can't tell you how important it is to get in the frame instead of just being the one taking the pictures all the time. You mamas matter. You are gorgeous. And the photos you are in will be some of your children's favorites.
