Found our Rock Star posted on Wild Horses of Alberta Society page. I questioned he was not free and was in their last Sundre horse show. They replied the photographer had confirmed it was not the same horse. My comments seem to have been removed. Is this not the same horse in every photo?

Update: one of our favourite wild stallions (and the star of our profile photo) must have wandered too close to the back gate at WHOAS. Resharing this photo to remind us of how he used to dance back when he was free. He was a joy to watch and it's heartbreaking to see him looking so dejected.

Lots of dynamics going on with this group!
- This was our first time seeing this roan stallion (that we can recall) and he was quite a handsome guy with lots of battle scars, and he looked healthy.
- His mares were some of the roughest looking gals we saw in our three-day trip... ribs sticking out or coats looking uneven.
- The lead mare (with the foal) looked the roughest of all, perhaps due to age. We have shots of her (with a different stallion) last June and she looked quite a bit better then.
- There were four mares in the group, and three of them were trying to chase the fourth one off. If she got close to them, they would flatten their ears and nip at her or chase her. We aren't that versed in band dynamics but it wasn't something we see very often.

Lots of drama in the wild west!

The youngest foal we saw in our travels this trip. The whole reason we spend so much time out west this time of year - these little ones. Just always hope they make it.

A closer look at the stallion who managed to sneak in and divide Creeson's band! While we may view him as the enemy, you have to give him some credit for pulling it off. 😂

Here is the infamous Creeson and who is now left in his band. Some notable figures have ended up with the new stallion in town.

In case you missed our earlier post, there was a big shakeup out west: https://www.facebook.com/108664574335189/posts/523437009524608/?d=n

"Change is good. And in fact unavoidable." - Dirk Benedict

A major shakeup has happened with one of our favourite bands! The dark stallion in the centre here (known to many as Creeson) used to have a large group of approximately 15 members - but it has been split in half.

This is a shot of an altercation between him and the stallion (third from the left) who by this time had already broken up the group. The two bands joined together briefly on this morning in a chaotic run around the meadow, and then they all disappeared into the trees, so we didn't see how things ended.

We revisited this spot later in the day, expecting to see all of Creeson's mares back with him and the intruder stallion kicked to the curb, but that wasn't the case! The new stallion was missing in action and Creeson was there with only six members of his original band.

Stay tuned to see who ended up where after the split!

"Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter." - Izaak Walton

This is about a quarter of the number of horses we saw all hanging out in this area this day... I'd say 95% of them were bays. The way June Fox can keep track of most of them even though they all look so similar is a true feat!

“How we need another soul to cling to.” - Sylvia Plath

We saw these two boys together in this area in mid June. The smaller of the two looked a little young to be without his mom, and we wondered if she was just off in the trees out of view. We saw them again on July 2 and it was still just the two of them. Not sure of the situation there but both look happy and healthy.
