Some big things happened in April! Literally huge things! Big and beautiful things! 😇
This brown trout was quite the specimen, and I wasn’t even expecting to catch anything that day. I was out for a spey casting lesson with my friend Rob, learning some new casts when, all of a sudden, there was a fish on the line. Prior to this brown, I had only caught one fish on the spey rod and wasn’t even sure how to fight a fish with such a long rod 😂. I saw it jump and knew it was a decent sized fish, but I had no idea how big it actually was! Thanks to the superb netting skills of Darcy, we were able to land the fish and admire its true beauty.
Then came my first set of elk antlers! In fact, it was my first set of any kind of antlers. Full disclosure: my friend found one, and I found the matching one. This set was so cool and unexpected because we had just found a group of bull elk with all their antlers. We thought we would have to come back the next week to see if they had dropped, but apparently, one of the big boys had already dropped, and we were lucky enough to find his sheds. 🦌
Last, but definitely not least, is my turkey! This big bird took so much hard work from both Darcy and me. This was our fourth year of turkey hunting, and we finally had success. After three years of disappointment, I was going into this season feeling a little defeated, but this was my year! On the first morning, we were up extra early, quietly making our way to the location. Darcy put out a couple of chirps, the hens came up the hill, and the tom followed right behind them, strutting his stuff. We didn’t move a muscle, my heart was racing as I took the shot. It was a clean shot at 22 yards, and he didn’t even see it coming. I was so thankful and excited, along with a whirlwind of other emotions. I couldn’t believe it! We took the bird home, processed it, and fed my family a turkey dinner that evening. What a satisfying meal, everyone was so grateful.🦃
You never know what the day ahead holds for your future!🌎
