Laura Barclay Photography

Laura Barclay Photography I am an adventure elopement photographer based in Calgary, Alberta. My true passion is capturing spontaneous and adventurous couples in wild places.

People who aren’t afraid to get their clothes a bit dirty or do a little hiking to get an epic shot. I’m a full time adventure wedding + elopement photographer in Calgary, AB. Luckily for me that is nicely nestled beside the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, where I spend a lot of my time. I love traveling and first picked up a camera 12 years ago while adventuring around South Africa. I am always in sear

ch of a new adventure, with my camera gear close at hand. I love being in the great outdoors, and really enjoy photographing people in nature. Choosing a wedding photographer is a big decision! I believe your wedding images should be as unique as you are, and portray an honest story of you as a couple on your wedding day. I hate stiff awkward poses, because honestly, neither you nor I would enjoy that. I’m for the adventurous souls, the wanderers, the quirky. Let’s create something beautiful together.

From the moment D + A saw a photo from this hike, they looked at each other and said “This beats Norway, let’s elope in Alberta.” So they did!

We hiked up the mountain in the dark to catch sunrise, took a midday coffee break overlooking an alpine lake, and rounded out the day with golden hour on a secluded mountaintop thanks to a sunset helicopter ride.

I am so glad I’m not the only one who thinks these are the best views in the world 🌎 😉

Kayla and Dusty came all the way from Ohio to elope in Banff National Park. They have been to so many national parks across the US, but knew Banff would be a special place to say their vows. They put together the most epic day, with stops at many alpine lakes and viewpoints, reading letters from friends and family in a field of wildflowers, an epic hike for a mountaintop ceremony, and finally sunset at the iconic Moraine lake after everyone else had left. What an amazing day start to finish!

After 3 years of closure from a massive flood, Berg Lake Trail finally reopened—and we got to be among the very first back in, with a love story leading the way. 💍🏔️

Hannah, Cole, and myself helicoptered into the heart of the Rockies for an intimate elopement at the base of Mt. Robson. We set up camp and then started photos at the lake with a cold dip, shot around the campground and lake, and then hiked up a steep slope to a sunset lookout that we had all to ourselves. What a privilege for H+C to be able to share their vows with nothing but the glacier around. On day 2 we hiked 20km out to our cars stopping at the incredible Emperor Falls for truly unique and powerful photos.
The whole hike had jaw-dropping views, rushing waterfalls, and trail lookouts we had entirely to ourselves.

Some places are worth the wait. Some moments are worth every mile. This was both. 💫

Since it’s been snowing again in the mountains here I figured it was a good time to post this dreamy heli elopement from October. We had a beautiful day with big soft flakes of snow falling throughout their ceremony which then let up and revealed the mountains for portraits.

Two weeks before their trip to Banff, Julie and Issac decided to elope while they were here too! She found a dress online, connected with me, booked the heli, and sure enough, they were married! They always dreamed of eloping in the mountains and I’m so glad this amazing day all came together.

Swipe through to the end for a hilarious posing fail 🫣

Simone and Francis took on -25°C at Lake Louise and made it look effortless. Their elopement was all about embracing the cold, the adventure, and each other. These two are seriously tough, fearless, and full of fun. They made the most of every moment, regardless of the biting cold! As an avid skier myself, I have been dreaming of an elopement like this and man was it ever a blast!

Hi, I’m back! I have an incredible blog post about this Peru elopement fresh on my site. My goal during my “off” season is to share an in depth look at some of my favourite shoots from the year, and I am excited to have one up already. Stay tuned for many more to come!

I can’t leave for Peru without sharing some photos from Mia + KJ’s hiking elopement!

We had one of the calmest and warmest September mornings I’ve ever experienced, and the sunrise was so serene. Mia and KJ have such a palpable love, the kind that is a joy and privilege to capture. The kind that makes my job so easy because I just watch and shoot and and soak in all the natural emotions taking place.

They included so many fun aspects to their day to make it perfect for them. They love making coffee on hikes, had a special song picked out for a first dance, and finished the day by reading letters from their closest friends and family. Mia also brought along two Polaroid cameras to capture so keepsakes, and KJ did an epic Lando Norris champagne celebration.

Congrats on your beautiful marriage ladies, it was an absolute blast spending the day with you ❤️

*Obsessed* as the cool kids say…

I have so many amazing shoots that need to be shared but just so little time to focus on social media. I am off to Peru at the end of the month for an elopement and then some personal trekking time, but after that, expect this page to be flooded with epic adventures.

So excited and proud to say that this photo won me a legend award from the !

A lot of my work features landscapes and dramatic scenery, but I am also proud to capture the amazing moments that happen during elopements as well. Elopements have so much emotion and authenticity and I am so grateful to have been recognized for something beyond what nature provides. Capturing all the feels along with the grandeur is what it is really about.

Thanks to for picking this round of winners and congrats to all the other talented photographers who were recognized this round!

Last week I met Amy + Spencer at the Lake Louise parking lot at 2:30am for their hiking elopement. Not only was parking free because it was so damn early but we also had the entire place (lake and hike) all to ourselves.

I rarely visit this Banff area much anymore because it is so busy and logistically tough to navigate, so it was such a pleasure to be there when it was peaceful and quiet. They had a beautiful ceremony as the sun was rising and then we enjoyed a few portraits down by the lake before parting ways. Every time I do a sunrise hiking elopement, I am reminded of why they really are my favourite.

I enjoyed some other hikes after our session and then counted 438 hikers making their way up to the lake when I was going down. Gotta pass the time somehow right 🤣
