That is a wrap on my cherry blossom mini sessions for the year. Over the course of two days, I had the pleasure of photographing eight wonderful families, and I am still pinching myself over how beautifully everything came together. The families who joined me were absolutely amazing, bringing so much love, warmth, and patience to every single time slot.

To say finding active blooms this week was stressful would be a massive understatement. Between the crazy heat wave, the intense wind, and now the rain rolling in this weekend, it felt like a race against the clock to capture the petals before they disappeared. Calgary weather always keeps me on my toes, but seeing these sweet moments frozen in time makes every ounce of stress entirely worth it.

AI isn't coming for family photography. If anything, it’s actually showing us exactly what makes this craft so irreplaceable.

While technology can generate a "perfect" image, it can’t replicate the genuine spark of a real human connection. The future of photography isn't about competing with an algorithm or having the fastest workflow. It belongs to the photographers who choose to be more human.

It’s about more than just a beautiful gallery. It’s about the magic of being captured exactly as you are and knowing those memories will always feel like home. Because at the end of the day, you deserve to look at a photo and remember exactly how it felt to be truly known.

Why are family photos so important to moms?
Because they’re rarely just about the photos.

They’re about being in the frame when you’re usually the one behind the camera.

They’re about holding onto a season you already know is changing too quickly.

They’re about preserving what home felt like for your children one day.

And sometimes, they’re simply about having proof that in the middle of all the loving, caregiving, and showing up… you were there too.

I think moms understand maybe more than anyone how ordinary moments become sacred memories.

•Children do not need to sit still or perform for me. I’m a mom too, and after photographing families for many years, very little surprises me.

• Big energy, strong opinions, wiggles, silliness… it’s all welcome. Those little quirks are often what make images feel the most alive.

•Thoughtful outfits can add beauty to a session, but connection will always matter more than coordinating clothes. The feeling between you is what carries a photograph.

• It may feel messy in the moment, but creating something beautiful out of those in-between moments is part of what I do. We’re not chasing one decent image, we’re telling a fuller story.

• Laugh with your kids. Chase them. Splash in the creek. Scoop them up. Be in it with them. Those unscripted moments are usually the ones you treasure most.

• Nothing has to be perfectly in order. Not your house, not everyone’s outfits, not the baby’s schedule. Bring your people as they are, bring the love that already exists, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Hi, I’m Chantal, the face behind Paisley Photography, and it felt like time for a reintroduction because it has been six years since I’ve had branding photos done… which means a few more laugh lines, a few more grey hairs, and hopefully a little more wisdom.

10 things about me if you’re new here:

1. I’ve been behind a camera for 15 years, and full time for 11. Wild, because in my head I’m still 29.
2. I’ll choose thrifting, garage sales, or an antique hunt over almost any outing. If there’s a vintage frame or weird brass object, I’m interested.
3. I’m a huge Dolly Parton fan. Her music reminds me of my childhood, and honestly Dolly feels part saint, part comedian, part life coach.
4. A vacation isn’t a vacation unless I’m near water. Lake, ocean, dock… I’m happy.
5. Spring is my favorite season because it carries the anticipation of summer. Also, after an Alberta winter, we all need hope.
6.I met my husband at kids camp, we got engaged after six months of knowing each other without ever officially dating, and somehow that turned into 17 years of marriage.
7. I’m forever decluttering, purging, or selling something. I love thrifting and getting rid of things. Contradictory? Yes.
8. I’m a huge animal lover and somehow keep finding lost dogs everywhere I go… including on a girls trip last weekend. Apparently this is my ministry.
9. I’m usually either barefoot or in Converse. There is very little in between. If you see me in a proper shoe, document it.
10. Faith is a quiet foundation in my life and work. It shapes more of who I am than I can fit in a caption.

And maybe the biggest thing… I still feel wildly grateful every time someone trusts me to document their family, business, or a season they never want to forget. I never take that lightly.

Mixing my past life in interior design school with my current world of Calgary interior photography is always a full-circle moment for me. I recently spent the day with Model Luxe Design capturing this stunning project and I loved every second of it. We worked our way through a beautiful living room, a sleek wine room, and even had a very special guest appearance from a cute foster dog who was the ultimate professional model. There is something so satisfying about using my design background to highlight the intentional details that make a local home feel truly high end.
