📱 Social media gets you known, but in-real-life connections are where the true value is!

When thinking about content creation, a lot of people picture fake influencers, but I believe everyone wants to be influential in their own positive way. For me, it started with understanding who I was offline first and getting to know myself. I had to let go of worrying about likes and views and focus on putting out a message I believed in to add value to other people's lives. I found that once you are as authentic as possible online, you start to build those genuine connections offline.

✨ Sharing vulnerable stories is the golden ticket in content creation!

I think more people just want to feel understood. When you share vulnerable stories that describe how somebody else might have felt in a situation, that's the real stuff people can actually relate to. I find that being real, vulnerable, and authentic actually attracts more people to you. If you can help people feel understood by telling a story through content creation, it's a golden ticket.

🤝 Seeing people in person completely made my loneliness disappear!

Building our studio did a couple of interesting things: first, it gave us a legitimacy that being remote simply didn't. Second, it allowed me to make such good friends, and many of my old clients are now friends who keep coming back. We even have one client who is in the studio three times a week! I genuinely feel that conversations and energy exchanges are so much better in person, and that quality truly shows in the content we create.

🎙️ Entrepreneurship is a surprisingly lonely experience, but our podcast studio did wonders for my isolation!

You might think you're always going to have employees, clients, and people around you all the time, but especially with remote work, that is simply not the case. Now, we have people coming in regularly, and we are actually celebrating our two-year anniversary of the studio being open this month. I remember when we initially started, I only had enough money in the bank for three months' rent, so we just treated it as a month-by-month lease. I told myself if it went terribly, we'd just end it after three months, but here we are at year two!

💻 The remote working lifestyle is amazing, but it can miss that day-to-day interaction between people.

When working online, I saw so many people struggling with loneliness and isolation. I wanted to bring people together so they could interact and honestly just be around others who speak their language. We can easily relate to business topics with each other, but maybe you don't have friends and family you can talk to about those things. I wanted to figure out how to bring more people together for great conversations so we don't feel so lonely in the journey of building our businesses.

🎓 The best place to learn anything? YouTube University.

Whenever I needed to learn a skill, I would simply search for it on YouTube. Even though some tutorials were way too long, I learned a ton just by watching other videos. I'd watch successful creators like Dude Perfect and figure out how to spice up my own editing based on what was clearly working for them.

🤩 There is no better feeling than being recognized!

It completely blows my mind when people recognize us on the street and bring up tutorials I made back in 2010. You don't always realize that people have watched you for thousands of hours. When someone comments or mentions your work, it means you've created a memory with them, and that is incredibly powerful.

Successful editing really comes down to three things: an incredibly powerful two-second hook, an interesting story, and a payoff. If you don't capture their attention immediately and follow through with a story and payoff, they won't watch the full video. Your watch time will tank, and the video simply won't perform.

✂️ Passion and data are the ultimate combo!

I've always had a passion for editing, making around 500 videos between 2008 and 2014. When I came back from university, I looked at the data and realized my tutorial-based videos were the top performers. I decided to focus directly on Call of Duty tutorials, and they blew up. I loved knowing that the more hours I put in, the better the result.

🎙️ Take the mental load off your content creation.

When you film by yourself, you have to juggle setting up cameras, lights, mics, and doing tests. The best part of coming into a professional studio is that you don't have to worry about any of those setup tasks. It takes the mental load off of you, allowing you to focus entirely on delivering your message really well.
