Waterton last weekend with winter holding on.

I'll be back May 25-28th for my Wander Waterton Workshop. There are two spots available if you'd like to join me in venturing further away from the roads and hiking some of the trail around Waterton, where I’ve found some lovely little scenes, and of course some grand scenes depending on how far and high you go!

Happy International Dark Sky Week!

Here's a nexus panorama from the dark skies of Jasper National Park. We are very lucky to have so many dark sky areas in Canada.

The Milky Way spans across the sky from approximately SW to NE.

The lake ice was groaning and cracking from a temperature drop, serenading me as I captured all the data I needed for this image. The only other sound and creature that night was a fox barking in the distance.

The tripod was moved between the foreground and sky images because the tripod had to be very low to the ice to get the foreground bubbles. The star tracker could not be aligned at that height.

⭐Applications are now open for my Annual Virtual Photography Mentorship Program!⭐

Deadline: Jan 22, 2026
Announcement: Jan 27, 2026
Link in comments.

What the mentorship offers:
A year-long, tailored learning experience focused on you and your growth in photography.
An initial deep-dive meeting to assess where you’re at, define goals, and begin planning the year ahead. Warning: I ask lots of hard questions throughout this mentorship.
Support in both creative and business aspects of photography - from developing your vision and editing skills to understanding how to build confidence and presence in the industry.
A mentor who champions authenticity, individuality, and unconventional thinking.
Perks like discounted access to group workshops if you’re interested in in-person learning opportunities.

Who this is for:
I’m looking for photographers who are building or growing a business, eager to share themselves and their work with the world, and ready to stretch themselves creatively and professionally. A strong passion for nature, a commitment to authenticity, and a desire to bring a fresh perspective to the world of photography are highly valued in this mentorship.

One of the testimonial's I received this year:

"As my mentorship with Monika comes to an end, I am thankful for all the insight, encouragement, and support I have received over the past year. With her direction and guidance, I have a clear plan of where I want to take my photography business. Being able to reach out for advice, critique, or simple questions has been a valuable component of my growth this past year. Monika’s support as a mentor and friend has increased my confidence in all areas of photography, particularly the speaking aspect. The consistent questions, conversations, and encouragement have made me feel confident in the direction I am taking my business, and I look forward to putting the information I have learned into effect moving forward."
