had the pleasure of working with the gorgeous and capturing her beautiful regalia 🥺🖤 i have a such an appreciation for indigenous culture, the depth of its diversity and all of the beautiful and unique art that represents the different cultures. I grew up on the west coast of Vancouver Island and was lucky enough to have friends who were close to their traditions and even in some cases included me. Growing up surrounded by master totem carvers, incredible beadworkers and hard working coastal foragers was so inspiring to me and defined my own desire to live closer to the land and treat it as sacred. When I saw Nikitas regalia I literally gasped because of just how different, colourful, and intricate some of the elements are compared to what I’m familiar with. Without question there are similarities, but in no way are indigenous people a monolith. The cultures and traditions vary so much from coast to coast to coast and honestly I think that’s something I want to explore more. I hope I can work with more indigenous creators from across this country to showcase the amazing expanse and unique beauty that each culture offers. 🖤
