Two days trekking with the Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda was a surreal and intimate experience I'll carry with me always. Dian Fossey spearheaded the conservation efforts starting in the 1960's which continue today as populations continue to grow to well over 1,000, a significant increase from a species once on the brink. Tourism has, in part, helped the local economy and bolstered conservation funding allowing a mutual benefit to both farmers and expanding mountain gorilla habitats alike. Rwandans are to be admired for their devoted efforts to protect these gorillas!

Larch Valley at its peak! This intermediate hike to Sentinel Pass is 11 km, 800m elevation gain there-and-back from Moraine Lake. The climb is most definitely worth it! If you're feeling extra eager, look up (waaay up) and set your sights on Mount Temple.

Finally got out shooting again! Here is stunning Ram Falls, about 2.5 hrs from Calgary. It's a bit of a drive there on a forestry trunk road but it's beautiful exploring new parts of the Rockies!
