Another wonderful day out fishing! We didn’t catch any fish but I got some great photos of some wildlife! Doing photography of ducks and water fowl is very new to me! I’m learning new breeds and realizing how hard it is to get a good photo when my camera doesn’t reach very far! The bufflehead ducks are very small and love how the males have the rainbow on their head when in the sun. The red-neck grebe I wish I got better photos, it has almost a bare looking neck, it was having issues with a loon chasing it around the lake. And the common merganser was really cool to see this pair near the James river! I love how the female has a little Mohawk kinda deal going on! The Canada goose is always a welcome sight! Than we ended the day with seeing some elk, they are a little tricky to get close photos but still adore seeing them! All these photos were taken around the sundre/ Caroline area.

We headed out on the backroads around burnstick lake fishing and I brought my camera! We saw tons of whitetails, last trip we saw over 200 deer in a span of an hour so happy to see the population doing so well! Near our house in James river we have a pair of Sandhill cranes hanging out by the bridge! At beaver lake this little killdeer was hanging out in the parking lot. At the Garrignton bridge we accidentally scared a momma goose off her three eggs. We kept our distance after and watched her get a drink, take a bath than go back to her eggs which made me happy. Than at home this morning the robins were fluffed up waiting for the sun to come out and the grosbeaks are making their way back to our feeders!

We had a really exciting visitor today!

The large Pileated Woodpecker, this is the largest woodpecker in Alberta and is roughly the size of a crow. This one has been hanging around but always tricky to get photos! I clearly need to refill my suet blocks. But so happy they came by!

Northern Flicker came for a visit today! I quite enjoy these large birds but this one can be very shy! 🙈

Got a few more last minute photos before dark!

I don’t often get photos of the hairy woodpecker let alone the female! They are more skittish but I’ve usually only seen the male! So this was exciting! They are quite larger than the Downy woodpecker and I find their beak seems longer.

Than my favourite chickadee came by for a visit! The Boreal chickadee is my favourite as I’ve never seen them till I started photography and only knew of the black capped chickadee!

The frost today made for some really great photos! We have quite a few birds visiting the feeders! Always so relaxing to pull up a chair to the big window and sit and watch the birds!
