The Turquoise Jewel of the Rockies

This breathtaking image showcases Peyto Lake’s signature wolf-head shape and its unreal, brilliant turquoise water, fed by glacial rock flour. Thrills and Tranquility: Cycling at Cascade Ponds

On one of my last days within Banff, I went to the Cascade Pond which has a very nice bike trail going within or through it. I sat waiting for some bikers to go by. Patiently waiting while messaging with a friend about their upcoming trip to the Rockies. Within time, a couple of bikers came by and sure enough I was able to capture this pic.

Waterfowl Lake, Alberta

On one of my last days in Alberta, I decided to go up the icefields parkway. I wasn’t sure how far I was gonna make it but wanted to spend some time up there. One spot I stopped in at was the Waterfowl Lake. After visiting this lake, I kept going further North. Always checking out my ETA to Jasper, I kept a close eye on just how nearby I was. I didn’t go tho. Having to cut this trip a touch short, I didn’t have the time. Maybe next time!

Moraine Lake

After a lot of running around with little sleep, I finally made it to Moraine Lake. A couple of days before, I had the opportunity to book a 3pm bus shuttle to take me to the lake. So I did. After all, bus shuttles are the only way you can get to this magnificent spot:

But then a 2pm bus shuttle had an opening. So I booked it too.

On the day the shuttle was to depart, I drove up to the Lake Louise Ski Hill. On the drive I realized, I’m exhausted after a busy and very active trip. So I popped into the gas station, got the biggest Red Bull I could (drinking such drinks is not suggested and not something I usually do) and drank half of it.

When we finally arrived, I was starting to feel tired again. After all, I got very little sleep on this trip. But it was go time. Off I went. To capture one of the most popular and well known destinations in Canada.

The sun was popping in and out of clouds.

Majestic Freight

I grabbed my morning Starbucks in Banff, Alberta and proceeded back to my charging vehicle after going for a short walk. The longer the walk, the more my Hyundai Plug In Hybrid would charge!

I got back to the rig and started to head out to my targetted areas for the day. Upon doing so, I was stopped at the railway crossing leaving Banff. A train was headed towards Calgary.

I had missed one opportunity to capture a train at a new location I had discovered.

As the train was going through the crossing, I thought I heard another train rumbling. The train I was observing started to slow down. I sat there thinking, come on, I'd like to get to my newly discovered rail fanning location as the train was crawling by.

Eventually, the train got through the crossing and cars began to move. Just as 4-5 cars crossed the crossing, I got closer and realized another train was already waiting to depart. It slowly started heading in the opposite direction. As the train went through, I noticed a locomotive on the end! This would be a great opportunity to capture an image of it heading to Lake Louise.

I booted her up to the location, parked my SUV and ran down to the location and was able to capture this beauty as the train passed by.

I think I'll definitely be including this image in my 2027 Canadian Trains calendar!

I’m not sure if the coyotes were howling at the or it was a coincidence that it had just gotten dark. Moon glowing behind me, I was slightly worried it might wash out the .

As the show started, I could hear the coyotes all around the Hoodoos in Drumheller. Knowing this, I knew my time was going to be limited. The would put on a good strong show every 15-20 minutes before retreating back on top of the hill.

In the end, my time was cut short as a curious coyote was coming closer and closer. And while I wasn’t too concerned with the single coyote, it was the ones probably with him that didn’t know about that concerned me more.

None the less, I think I still captured a decent shot.
Hopefully the show will go on and tonight I will try for something in Banff.
