Happy Winter Solstice, the first day of winter! This is one of my favourite Winter quotes, and I can't believe it the first non-photojournalistic photo I ever sold.

"There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself."

As a story consultant, I am honoured to be asked to document people's stories. Especially this one.

I have known Jessica since she was 18 years old. She is a beautiful soul. She fosters animals and works with kids. She is giving and kind. Last month she was diagnosed with breast cancer at only 31 years of age. She starts chemo soon, and the doctors said she will 100 percent lose her hair. She decided to colour her hair pink and have a photoshoot done. Along with chemo, she will most likely need surgeries and other treatments.

She asked me if I would be willing to document her journey. I told her, of course! But, we are going to call it her journey kicking cancer's butt.

You got this, Jessica. I love you.

It was a beautiful and moving event. It was nice to be behind the camera again too.
