I found this in my archives today, and it stopped me in my tracks…

As a photographer, my hard drives are full of thousands of moments. But as a mom? My heart is full of the ‘in-betweens.’

This photo wasn’t from a big family production or a planned holiday shoot. It was just a random weekday afternoon. The light was hitting the backyard bubbles just right, school was out, and for a split second, everything felt still.

This is why I started the ‘After-School’ Series.

Because I realized that 18 years of professional experience doesn’t mean much if I’m not using it to capture the life happening right in front of me—and helping you do the same.

You don’t need a formal occasion. You don’t need a 2-hour ‘production.’ You just need 15 or 30 minutes between 3:00 and 4:30 PM to bottle up the season you’re in right now.

When Brittany, a friend I’ve known since childhood, brought home her second, I was invited into the stillness. No pressure. No poses. Just love—layered in tired eyes, tiny fingers, and big-sibling wonder.

Have you ever thought about the season you’re going through right now, and the friends you have made along the way?

Too often I think about how we don’t document the people in our inner circle. Years can go by and we can have a small handful of pictures with our friends. Having too much fun to remember to take a picture for a memento.

I’d love to do more of these “friendship sessions”, something as simple as friends heading to the off-grid cabin for a weekend of clearing the road in of overgrowth.
