Overall, Laura & Jesse's day was just INSANE, in all the best ways. In the grand scheme of life, I know that the decor and vibe doesn't matter, but they killed it, ok? It's worth mentioning. The florals, the venue, the dress, the paper goods... sooooo beautiful!! And these two are just so stinking cute together. They deeply care for each other and it shows. So so blessed to be a part of this one, and can't wait to share more!!

Noone: what is the point of engagement photos

Me: they’re not really about the photos.

The point of engagement photos is to get comfortable—together (because we're mostly all stupid awkward in front of a camera), and with your photographer.

A few real reasons they matter:

You learn how it feels to be photographed. Most couples aren’t used to being in front of a camera. Engagement sessions take the pressure off so your wedding day doesn’t feel like a practice run.

You build trust with your photographer. You see how they direct, what their style feels like, and how they capture you as you, not stiff versions of you.

You get photos that reflect this season of your life. Before the dress, the timeline, the nerves of the wedding day. Just the two of you as you are right now.

They help the wedding day flow better. When you already know what to expect, portraits go faster and feel more natural.

They’re useful. Save-the-dates, your website, guest book, wall art—photos that aren’t in wedding attire but still mean a lot.

If couples skip them, it’s usually not a dealbreaker—but when they do them, they almost always say, “I’m so glad we did that.”

Everyone loves the posed photos—and they matter. They're the ones that get printed, hung on the wall and used on thank you cards.
But the getting ready moments? All of the in between moments?
That’s where the nerves show up. Where everything starts to feel real. Where nothing is hidden and emotions are obvious.
These are the images that make you remember how the day actually felt. And this is why I'm so drawn to documentary style photography! Anyone can teach themselves to take "good photos". But being ready for and finding the story? That's where the real beauty lies.

One of my favourite families on the planet!! This one was a doozy; settle in for a little story-time.
I suggested we head up to Mt. Woodside at sunset. The views are incredible and it's relatively easy to access. I met them at the bottom of the fsr, and hopped in with them for the quick drive up. It had been a while since I had been there, so I missed the turn off, and we ended up having to turn around. As Tim is turning the truck around, we start to hear this loud hissing sound. And we think SHOOOOOOT. That's not good 😆 He had slashed his tire, and was losing air FAST. So instead of being stranded at the top of this hill with 3 kids, he decided the logical thing would be to go Gran Turismo and see how close to the bottom he could get (mostly because this was a brand new truck and none of us had changed a tire on one of these suckers before). Well he ended up getting pretty close, but didn't want to damage the rim, so we had to stop before the bottom. We decided to walk the rest of the way down, load everyone into my van, do the shoot at nearby Kilby, and then head back to deal with the tire. Which we did, and all was fine 😂😂😂 You just never really know how your day is going to go, do you :P Now these photos are really memorable!!

Celebrating hard work, late nights, and a future that’s just getting started. 🎓📸

There's something so iconic about shooting grads. You can feel the shift happening — the end of one chapter and the quiet beginning of another. No rules yet, no labels, just that mix of relief, excitement, and nerves about what’s coming next.

He also did an outfit change, so there are more to come!!
