Noone: what is the point of engagement photos
Me: theyâre not really about the photos.
The point of engagement photos is to get comfortableâtogether (because we're mostly all stupid awkward in front of a camera), and with your photographer.
A few real reasons they matter:
You learn how it feels to be photographed. Most couples arenât used to being in front of a camera. Engagement sessions take the pressure off so your wedding day doesnât feel like a practice run.
You build trust with your photographer. You see how they direct, what their style feels like, and how they capture you as you, not stiff versions of you.
You get photos that reflect this season of your life. Before the dress, the timeline, the nerves of the wedding day. Just the two of you as you are right now.
They help the wedding day flow better. When you already know what to expect, portraits go faster and feel more natural.
Theyâre useful. Save-the-dates, your website, guest book, wall artâphotos that arenât in wedding attire but still mean a lot.
If couples skip them, itâs usually not a dealbreakerâbut when they do them, they almost always say, âIâm so glad we did that.â
