Churchill, Canada is one of the best places in the world to see and hear Beluga Whales. Belugas are known as the canaries of the sea because of how many sounds they make and have a flexible neck that lets them look from side to side unlike any other cetacean.

Days 7-17 of Ecuador: Mindo and Refugio Paz de Las Aves

We were unable to make it to the Amazonian region of Ecuador due to a landslide that blocked our path. We extended our stay in Mindo and were able to get a lot of special birds and near endemics. Its always exciting going somewhere new and having nearly every bird be a lifer.

This Talamanca Hummingbird was really showing off his iridescence in the rain while trying to fight off rivals from his feeder.

This is a newer species, being split in 2017 from Magnificent Hummingbird into Rivoli’s and Talamanca Hummingbird.
