Something we too often forget when it comes to weddings is that they can be incredibly emotional and hard on the heart. Especially when some of the most important people in your life are absent.
Niomi lost her father shortly before her wedding, and Tyler lost his mother a little before that. I knew heading into this day, and after several talks with Niomi, that this was going to be a day that would change the way I view capturing weddings going forward.
It’s more than just the pretty images. It’s her father’s favorite drink on a chair reversed specifically for him. It’s his fingerprint resting on a silver necklace circling her bouquet. It’s her first look with her brother, because dad couldn’t be there. It’s a memorial tree planted directly at her wedding venue. It’s the wedding party placing flowers on Tyler’s mom’s chair. And the speeches at dinner that had the whole room flowing with tears. It’s a family both celebrating, and grieving together - quietly and in harmony.
I can’t count how many times I felt my own tears fall this day. The love in this wedding touched my heart in a way I can’t describe. And I am forever changed by witnesses the tender care and love each person showed Niomi and Tyler on their special day. I am also profoundly inspired by the love the two of them share together. It was a beautiful day and I felt honoured to be a part of it.
