The challenge theme for "Dogs In Action" in January was a portrait of a Dog and Colour. Actually it was about minimizing colour by limiting the colour inside the frame of the image. Not counting the colours of the dog itself, we were asked to have no more than 2 colours in the image. I chose to shoot a white dog in the snow. I don't think we realize how much of a yellow tint exists in a dog's "white" fur until we photograph in the fresh snow!

The challenge theme for "Dogs In Action" in December was Dog and Person. We were tasked with producing an image that demonstrated a connection between a dog and a person. It was important that the image captured the emotion of their connection. For me, this image resonates in my soul. It could be a long-past self-portrait of a young horse and dog-crazed girl who lived by the quote "Whoever said a diamond is a girl's best friend never had a horse and a dog!" I wonder how many others see themselves in this image. Sweet Lacey waited so patiently during this photoshoot of her person and her Quarter Horse stallion Canyon and at the very end she joined us for the perfect moment I was hoping for.

The challenge theme for "Dogs In Action" in November was Fall Colours. We were tasked with finding an emotion to represent using fall colours for a portrait or action image. I thought about how fall (my favourite season) is like a pause for me. That moment when we exist between the warmth of summer and the coolness of winter. I was very deliberate in choosing my location and my model for this challenge. I really wanted the warmth of the deep reds and oranges (and yes, I brought some extra leaves to the location) against the whiteness of what is coming for us in the next season. This sweet Papillon Molly was perfect for the juxtaposition I was trying to convey. Such a good girl for a 10 month old puppy! She has a lot fire in her character!
