Another stop in Greenlands vibrant west coast. A place where some of earth’s oldest ice meets stone

Ilulissat is a place of beautiful contradictions.

Here, ancient rock holds its ground while rivers of ice are forever in motion. Light spills across icebergs with impossible softness, while deep shadows carve strength into every cliff and ridge. It’s a landscape where nothing feels still—yet everything feels timeless.

Walking the tundra boardwalk, I’m struck by how small we become in places like this. Reminded that nature has been telling this story for thousands of years, one glacier, one tide, one season at a time.

The UNESCO protected Ilulissat Icefjord isn’t just spectacular—it’s alive. Every iceberg drifting through Disko Bay carries a chapter of Greenland’s ice sheet, slowly reshaping both the coastline and our understanding of a changing Arctic. From where’s it’s been to where it will go. ❄️

This is Ilulissat.

Where ice meets stone.
Where light meets shadow.
Where awe meets perspective.

One of things that will stop me in my tracks…every time, is witnessing those small moments where I understand…truly FEEL and connect to a moment or experience witnessed in the wild. 🌿whatever the day brings, we are never alone. ❤️

I’m incredibly excited to help kick off the KBA Photo Contest with Wildlife Conservation Society Canada — and especially honoured to be joining this year’s panel as a guest judge.

Photography has an extraordinary ability to do more than show us what a place looks like. At its best, it can make us care about what happens to it.

That’s what makes Canada’s Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) so important. These are places that matter on a global scale — critical landscapes and waters supporting remarkable species, ecosystems and biodiversity, sometimes in places we might otherwise pass right by.

And now, WCS Canada is inviting photographers to help tell their stories.

Whether your KBA is somewhere wild and remote or surprisingly close to home, I’d love to see what catches your attention. The big moments, the tiny ones, the species we recognize immediately — and especially the stories most people have never noticed.

Because conservation begins with something remarkably simple:

Someone stops.
Someone looks.
And suddenly, a place matters.

I can’t wait to see what you discover — and what you create. 🙌🏼

📷 The KBA Photo Contest is officially underway.

One of the most challenging and rewarding species to photograph or hummingbirds. Whether they’re in your own backyard or an exotic destination, it’s a great opportunity to push your limits and comfort zone to learn and grow. ❤️

Love is loud on North Rona.

Every spring, these remarkable seabirds return to the same windswept cliffs, reuniting with the same partner after months spent alone at sea. What looks like a flurry of awkward landings, head tilts, and animated conversations is actually a ritual that has played out here for thousands of years!

Among carpets of pink sea thrift, every glance, every bill tap, and every comical landing is part of strengthening a lifelong bond before the work of raising a single chick begins.

Standing on the jagged cliffs of North Rona, it was impossible not to feel like a guest in one of nature’s oldest love stories. Another amazing trip guiding with adventurecanada

Canada is more than a place on a map—it’s a collection of wild moments, untamed landscapes, and extraordinary lives woven together from coast to coast to coast.

From soaring mountains and endless forests to rugged shorelines, Arctic tundra, and the countless species that call these places home, I’m reminded time and again how incredibly fortunate we are. But what makes this country truly unforgettable isn’t just its scenery—it’s the people. The communities, cultures, and warm welcomes found in every corner are as remarkable as the landscapes themselves.

Today, we are celebrating the beauty, diversity, and wild spirit of this incredible country. May we never stop exploring it, protecting it, and appreciating the privilege of calling it home.

Happy Canada Day. 🇨🇦❤️
