Holly Nicoll Photography

Holly Nicoll Photography My name is Holly Nicoll. I enjoy capturing authentic moments that define western lifestyle and agriculture with my camera. It probably started there.

Canvas prints, cards, calendars are available for purchase. Contact me for your next photo session. I'm not sure how I got into photography. But, growing up, I rode and showed Quarter Horses. I would spend hours looking at the photos and ads in the American Quarter Horse Journal. I loved the horses, the riders, the visual creativity. I was called a tom boy, growing up on a cattle ranch west of Cal

gary, AB. Mom couldn't get me in a dress, but I loved my cowboy boots and baseball caps. Not much has changed. Horses, cowboys, farming, beautiful skies and country landscapes make me happy. My career continues to thrive in agriculture with a focus in marketing. In my spare time I like to capture real moments of the people in the industry that work hard to feed the world. Because of my agriculture roots, I won't need a tutorial on the differences between wheat and barley crops, cattle breeds or a horse with good confirmation. For commercial clients, I'm easy to work with. If you have a goal in mind, I will strive for the results that you’re looking for. If you are looking for a portrait or family session or someone to photograph and event, let me capture it with my camera. Thanks for following along on my journey of photography. It felt good to get away from the computer for a few hours today.

The past week and a half has been non-stop, so it was nice to feel the sun, catch up with neighbours, and most of all, push buttons on the camera just for fun.

The branding pen has a way of filling my cup….very timely as I was running on empty.

The past five days at the Reining Alberta Spring Classic were long, busy, and full-on, and I’m not sure I would have made it through them as smoothly without by my side.

Kyla jumped in, worked incredibly hard, handled the long days, took some amazing photos, and was a huge help the last 3 days. More than that, she showed up with the kind of attitude and work ethic that makes a real difference when the days get long.

I’m excited to have her assisting me this season and looking forward to mentoring her as she continues to grow her photography skills.

Welcome aboard, Kyla.

Sometimes the best surprises still come in the mail.

I picked up the latest issue of FCC AgriSuccess yesterday and was excited to see one of my images on the front cover of their CEO Checklist special edition.

There’s something pretty rewarding about seeing an image move from a day in the field to a finished piece of print storytelling.

Grateful to have my photography included in this edition and always proud to help tell the story of Canadian agriculture.

Here’s a few images of my evening in the studio on the weekend using strobe lighting. Thanks to the folks at for the lovely bottle of Stampede Whiskey and my friend, for the cowboy bling!

Which image do you like the best of these 3? Leave your vote in the comments.

You won’t get better unless you practice and experiment. Try new things and work at it.

Those were the words in my head as I spent some time in the studio on a Saturday night capturing some beautiful cowboy gear.
