Most of the time I still can’t believe this is my job.
Documenting weddings has me far too invested in people I met only a short time ago.
By the time the wedding day rolls around, I know who you’re worried might be late, which family members absolutely need a photo together, what part of the day you’re most nervous about and usually at least one piece of family lore I probably had no business learning (but I'm here for it).
And then I get to spend the day watching all of it actually happen.
The big things, obviously. Walking down the aisle. The first kiss. The portraits.
But also your mom seeing you dressed for the first time. Your friends piling onto a golf cart. The look across the table when nobody else is paying attention. The completely unplanned stuff that ends up being some of my favourite photographs.
I think that’s the part of wedding photography I’ll always be obsessed with. I’m not there to manufacture a perfect day. I get to pay attention to the one you’re actually having.
Pretty ridiculous job, really.
