The Edge of the Earth

There’s something about standing on the rugged coastline of Newfoundland, watching the mighty North Atlantic crash against cliffs that have stood for thousands of years.

I still remember this sunrise at The Beamer, when the sky came alive with fiery reds and oranges and the waves pounded against the rocks below. It was one of those mornings when you truly felt like you were standing at the edge of the earth.🌄🌊

With another round of wind and rain heading our way tomorrow, I thought this old favourite was worth sharing. A reminder of just how wild, unpredictable and beautiful our little corner of the world can be.💨🌧️

There’s something about the colourful little houses scattered throughout Newfoundland that always catches my eye, and this beautiful blue house in Bonavista was no exception. Standing among the tall golden grasses, with its weathered shingles, unusual roofline and little red door, it’s full of that old Newfoundland charm and character. As the evening sky filled with beautiful shades of pink and purple, I couldn’t help but wonder about the years gone by, the changing seasons, and the stories this little house could tell. Just a quiet evening in Bonavista, where a simple old house and a beautiful sunset came together to create something special.

At the End of the Beaten Path

Sometimes the prettiest places in Newfoundland are found where the road runs out and the beaten path begins.

Tucked away along the shoreline in Trinity, this charming old home sits surrounded by the fiery reds and golden grasses of autumn. With a warm light glowing by the door, the evening sky putting on one last show, and the quiet waters of Trinity in the background, it’s a scene right out of a Newfoundland storybook.

A little piece of Newfoundland charm, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, where life seems to move just a little slower.

Autumn in King’s Cove 🍂
Nestled along the shoreline in King’s Cove, Newfoundland, a golden-coloured home stands out against the deep greens of the surrounding forest and the brilliant colours of autumn.
Across the calm waters, the changing leaves bring splashes of yellow, orange and red to the rugged hillside, while the last of the autumn foliage frames this peaceful little scene.
There’s something special about these quiet Newfoundland communities, where colourful homes sit tucked between the rocky shoreline and the forest-covered hills. As the seasons change, familiar landscapes take on a whole new beauty.

Along the rugged shoreline of The Battery in St. John’s, old fishing stages cling to the rocks, weathered by years of wind, rain, and the relentless North Atlantic.

As evening settles in, a blanket of fog rolls across the harbour, softening the coastline and slowly swallowing the houses in the distance. The warm glow of streetlights stretches across the calm water, bringing a little colour to an otherwise cold, grey evening.

These old wooden structures have seen better days, but there’s something beautiful about them. Their worn boards, crooked foundations, and battered stages are reminders of a time when life along this shoreline revolved around the sea.

A little rough around the edges, full of history, and unmistakably Newfoundland. ⚓️🌊

Weathered wooden steps, old fishing buoys and homes built tight against the rugged rock. On a grey, damp morning in The Battery, scenes like this seem to show a little more of their character.

There’s nothing polished or perfectly laid out about this place, that’s part of what makes it so special. Generations of life squeezed into the hillsides along the harbour, shaped by the land, the weather and the sea. Rugged, weathered and unmistakably Newfoundland. 🌧️🌊

A grey morning in The Battery, but never short on colour. ⚓️🌊

Tucked beneath the rugged hills of St. John’s, the Kelly Louise rests at the wharf while the colourful homes of The Battery climb the rocky hillside behind her.

Bright houses scattered among the rock, a working fishing boat reflected in the harbour, and generations of life built along the edge of the North Atlantic. A scene that feels unmistakably like home, rugged, colourful, and shaped by the sea.

There’s a different side of The Battery when the skies turn grey. Rain darkens the narrow streets, fog settles over the hillside, and little splashes of colour break through an otherwise gloomy Newfoundland day. No crowds, no sunshine - just wet pavement, old houses and the quiet character of one of St. John’s most recognizable neighbourhoods. Some days, the mood is the view. 🌧️🌫️

There’s something about The Battery on a rainy, foggy day that just feels right.

The colours seem a little richer, the streets a little quieter, and the wet pavement leads you through the narrow lanes between the old houses. No dramatic sunrise or golden light needed - just rain, fog, and one of those moody Newfoundland days that gives this place so much character.

Sometimes the grey days tell the best stories. 🌧️🌫️🏠

Fall has entered the chat. 🍂

A little different for me, but there was something about this scene that caught my eye.

There’s just something about Trinity when autumn starts taking over. Fallen leaves carpeting the ground, a little colour still hanging onto the trees, and that beautiful old blue house sitting beneath a soft evening sky. I loved how the branches naturally framed the house and drew my eye into the scene.

Scenes like this are one of the reasons I love photographing Newfoundland — you can turn a corner and suddenly find something that looks like it belongs in a storybook.
