In celebration of world biodiversity day, I present Arctic Frontiers: Life at the Edge of a Changing World project.
"Where Ecosystems Collide"
The cover imagery from Arctic Frontiers: Life at the Edge of a Changing World showcases a rare convergence of ecosystems and life found along the western shores of Hudson Bay near Churchill, Manitoba. Within a single region exists an extraordinary collision of marine, tundra, and boreal environments, each supporting an incredible diversity of species uniquely adapted to survive at the edge of the world.
Polar bears roam the coastline waiting for sea ice to return. Arctic foxes weave between stunted black spruce. Ptarmigans disappear into the snow-covered tundra while migratory birds flood the skies during warmer months. Beluga whales gather offshore in summer beneath endless northern light. Every species here is connected to another through climate, migration, water, ice, and land.
What makes this region so extraordinary is not just the wildlife itself, but the overlap. Few places on Earth allow you to witness the transition between ecosystems so visibly and so powerfully. The boreal forest slowly gives way to open tundra. Freshwater systems feed into the marine environment of Hudson Bay. Predator and prey, migration and stillness, resilience and fragility all exist together in one interconnected landscape.
This is what Arctic Frontiers seeks to capture. Not simply photographs of wildlife, but a deeper story about biodiversity, connection, and the delicate balance holding these northern ecosystems together.
On International Day for Biological Diversity, this project stands as both a celebration and a reminder: protecting biodiversity means protecting entire systems, not just individual species. Because when one piece changes, every ecosystem connected to it changes as well.
