Spring has arrived for many areas in western Canada, and it is important to be hyper vigilant when travelling in the backcountry. The Northern Hawk Owl, looks like an owl, but behaves much like a hawk. This owl has many characteristics of a hawk, including the long tail feathers, facial features and the quick wing beats as it flies. It is one of the few owls that is not strictly nocturnal nor crepuscular, often being active during the day.
