We met in dance. I was newly coming in as their new photographer- unsure of how I was going to pose my subjects with almost no dance experience myself, but positive that these kids were dynamite.

I was in a place of transition and lots of moving pieces. I knew I wasn’t an expert in dance, but I also knew I didn’t need to be. I could trust the dancers. They knew. I didn’t need to control it- I just had to capture it. They had the magic- I could feel it- and I could count to eight.

What started in a whirlwind has become one of the most precious few weeks of work I have every year. I absolutely adore the relationships I’ve built with my Kootenay DanceXtreme clients & their instructors- and this beauty is one of them.

It has been an honour to get to know you, walk beside you for part of your journey, and to make magic with you Kaitlyn Teindl ✨ you’re going to do amazing things and I am going to be hyping you up and cheering you on!

Congratulations on your grad, shiny star. The best is yet to come 💕

A few months ago I got a random text message from a number I didn’t recognize.

She was coming to BC for the first time, to a place I love- Three Bars Ranch. She was planning a surprise proposal.

“We usually show up to a second date with a UHaul- I didn’t want to be that cliché, but she’s the one,” she said.

“Let’s make freaking magic,” I said.

(Literally) thousands of text messages later, Instagram DMs, photo galleries sent back and forth, plans & ideas exploding all over the place… she said maybe. just maybe. We could do a cute picnic vibe?

I called grazeandgathercbk for the most artistic, stunning and delicious charcuterie. I popped in to see Kelsey Sarah & Kelsey for beautiful blooms, in exactly the right colours. I begged Tarah Boyle for cushions, details & poufs, (because don’t tell her but she’s a cuter person than me.) I gathered the items I had around the house that would work, picked up some bubbly & sweets-& crafted the perfect “cute picnic” for their intimate proposal celebration.

Today was the day! We had excellent weather, the best chauffeur and sidekicks, horses with personality, and… SHE SAID YES! It was even truly a surprise!

So excited for you beauties! It was lovely to finally meet my Florida bestie and watch her propose to the coolest girl around. Congratulations you two- thank you for letting me be a little piece of your day. More to come 💖

Sometimes your story doesn’t turn out as planned. Mine didn’t.

Somewhere in between feeling like I was losing everything I had built, and finally flying free I realized a few things.

The loss sucks. Realignment hurts. Many things shift and change and at times I really wished for ANYTHING else. I was surprised by the polarity- and by realizing that hyper independence is a trauma response.

The friends you lose weren’t able to hold you in your new form. The ones you gain come battle seasoned- they’ve seen some things. They have capacity for love because they have earned every ounce of it. They roll up their tattered sleeves and sit with you in the worst of it. Intentionally checking in, and never taking an “I’m fine” at face value. They relentlessly champion you through the toughest, grittiest s**t and celebrate your wins with exuberant joy- the same joy that comes from a place of knowing what it cost you. Of recognition. The girl who refused to quit or settle in me, recognizes the warrior in you. Sometimes they slide into your DMs on a whim and it turns into something electric-something long term.

When you meet those ones- and I pray you will- hold them close. Tell them you love them and SEE THEM- witness their excitement and join in. Be present. Make the effort back. They are few & far between. Love them well or leave them alone.

Plans change. Stories pivot. But the love you discover along the way makes it all the worth it. 🦐

Real, messy, authentic, imperfect unfiltered humanity. The best kind. The kind that says yes immediately because of the recognition of something true.

I’m happy to have found that in these ones- and I’m hanging on. 💖 congratulations, fellow warrior. You’ve got me for life- and I am so glad to have you. Thank you for tonight, and for your friendship.
