Week 8,9,10.11 & 12!

Literally had a picture sitting here, edited and ready to go for today, and still almost forgot to post it!

STORMY STORM STORM SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

Caught my first shelf cloud of the season on March 15. Was an unexpected surprise that I would have completely missed if I didn't smoke and just happened to go out for one just as this was approaching Crossfield.

Random soft pastel shot from the other day. Was looking for a different picture and decided I actually kinda liked this one. Had I given it more thought at the time of photographing I probably would have taken it without the tree and snow blotches to make it a minimalist shot instead of having weird distracting things in the foreground, but oh well.

Anyway, reason for post: I Actually have a photo to show you on Sunday! Probably try getting back into the swing of things soon here, and this weeks photo is an indicator that my favourite thing to photograph and what inspires me the most is just around the corner!!

Well s**t. Sorry folks, just realized I've missed two weekly photos in a row, I thought it was only one haha. I did weekly photos for many years and never once missed a week, and now I've already missed two. I just have other more important things piling up and weighing me down a bit that I need to get caught up on.

Ah well. There will be more. It's no secret that I no longer hold the passion or value towards photography that I once used to. BUT I also don't want to flood this page with a bunch of inferior photos that no effort at all went into creating (which has already been happening and was a major concern for myself while starting this page back up)

I don't really know where i'm going with this. No promises but I'll at least try to occasionally have something cool for you guys to look at. *shrugs*

In other news.....weekly photo, week 5!

Been wanting to a renaissance painting inspired still-life for a while.

The only real challenge was I wanted it to actually kind of look like a painting WITHOUT just using some filter or generally over editing it in post processing.

Tried a few things, some plastic/mesh over my lens, smoke, nothing really gave it a painting feel.

Ended up just shooting it very dark and slow with very contrasting light. I think f22 and 1/30 then cranked my iso to like 64k to make it grainy. Seems to have worked.

Sorry folks, really jumped the gun on my weekly photo.

After I posted that I read reports that everyone made it out safely, and knowing there would be better lighting right before sunset I decided to go back out and get some better photos.

There's a STEADY stream of fire/water trucks going from the plant to town and back. I'd suspect there's not enough water pressure on site to properly fight the fire, but I'm not 100% sure.

Weekly photo, week 4!

Holy hell. Highline Mushrooms fire Jan 23, 2022.

I'm not going to say much out of respect in case anyone got hurt or anything (it's still currently burning)

Crazy fire though, looks like at least one main building is completely destroyed. In the 1.5 or so hours I was watching it there was drastically less smoke then when I first got there, and also saw a couple ambulances go into there and none came racing back out, so hopefully that's a good sign.

All photos taken with my telephoto from at least 1km away to not get in any emergency vehicles ways. Emergency crews from at least three different communities came out to battle this one.

Weekly photo, week 3!

I have no idea how it's already Sunday. Where does the time go. Almost didn't even do anything today for a weekly photo. Was going to just take a picture of a glass of wine or something but figured what the heck, may as well.

About an hour ago I browsed a few macro groups and saw people using water drop on clear tape over ipads to take pictures like this. I didn't want my background to be a different picture I'd much rather have the whole thing just be it's own picture. So I turned my softbox upside down, dumped a bunch of marbles in it and used that as the background.

Phew. Safe for another week....behind the scenes in comments.

Anywho, here's a behind the scenes and a few outtake attempts at fluorescent frozen bubbles (see weekly photo for current best attempt) and also a snowflake I photographed a couple weeks ago.

Weekly photo, week 2!

Been trying fluorescent frozen bubbles for like 2 years now...and by that I mean tried for about 3 hours last year and again for 2 hours this year. It's hard, but I could eventually get it I think. This is my best attempt so far.

Honestly I shouldn't even be doing this project. Between my landscape business, my novel, my insane backlog of wedding/client pictures I need to get sent out it's really not a very good use of my time making silly photos like this, but oh well.
