What's that saying about the shoemaker's children going barefoot?
High time I updated my own headshot.
Does the previous one still look like me? Sure.
Does it still feel like me? Maybe.
Does this new one represent me today? Definitely.

It's where I feel I'm at today, and that's one of the things I love about headshot photography - being able to 'freeze frame' those moments along the journey. Photography is storytelling, and the best stories evolve with life.

As 2025 comes to a close, I’ve been thinking about the opportunities photography has given me, the trust people placed in me, and how deeply grateful I am for that.

I’m grateful to the client who brought me to Alberta for their National Conference — and for the chance to explore the Rockies.
To the businesses who invited me in to help build their brand stories.
To the groups who chose to gather in Nova Scotia and invited me to capture their first experiences here.

To the father and son who let me create their first professional photos together.
To the family who welcomed me into what became their last full gathering before an end of life — an honour I don’t take lightly.

I’m grateful to those who allowed me to share emotional moments — seeing themselves in a photograph and saying, “That finally feels like me.”
To the people who trusted me with personal achievements, from cosplayers to dancers to business owners.
And I’m deeply touched knowing my work is hanging on walls in people’s homes.

Thank you to the charities and community groups doing important work who invited me to support them in the ways I could.
And to everyone who showed up to celebrate the opening of my new studio and helped make it feel like a community space from day one.

This year was a reminder that photography isn’t about technical perfection — it’s about people, trust, and being invited into moments that matter.

Thank you to everyone who stood in front of my camera this year. I don’t take that trust for granted, and I walk into 2026 with hope and optimism.

The first thing that I bought for my first studio was the espresso machine. Years ago I remember coming into have my headshots done and the first thing the photographer did was offer me a freshly made Americano. Being able to take that minutes to pause and connect made for a fantastic photo experience, and that's exactly how I love to start my sessions. The fact that it also feeds my inner coffee snob doesn't hurt, LOL

Five years ago this week we were still unpacking, and I was trying to figure out how to make our living room work as a studio. I was also realising that it wouldn't be as easy as I had thought to replace the gear I had to leave behind (COVID + only one camera store = slim pickings).

But we made it work, and 5 years ago, Capture It Photography was born! Some of you have been around since the beginning. Some are brand new connections. All are appreciated for being a part of this journey. For helping to make Capture It Photography something special and unique in the headshot space.

"Headshots for people who hate having their photo taken" isn't just a tag-line, it's an ethos. It's creating a safe and empowering space for anyone who's never felt seen before on camera. For anyone who has ever convinced themselves that they are not photogenic. For anyone who wants to meet their best self.

Capture It Photography lives in the space of entrepreneurs, executives, and business who are looking for a full service, headache free, headshot experience. I continue to be thankful for (and humbled by) the amazing response from the business community, and I'm so grateful for all the amazing connections made along the way. And a special thank you to my rockstar partner , (who's quite the business owner herself)!

Truly, here is home! Here's to the next 5, and beyond!

Photos in studio with Sandra Hannebohm ( ) was a ton of fun! One of the things I'm very much enjoying about the current studio is the ease in which a session can move from headshot to portrait and back. Really makes it easier to try stuff, and create all sorts of different looks.
Of course, having someone in front of the camera who's as open and lovely to work with is a treat in any space :)
