Monday night, Feb. 16 . 2026, in Dawson Creek, I stood in the cold with so many others—candles lit, hearts heavy—capturing the memorial for the lives taken in Tumbler Ridge.

As a mom, this tragedy has changed something in me. In all of us. It’s a reminder of how fragile “normal” can feel, and how fiercely we love and protect our kids. Like so many parents, I’ve held my kids a little tighter lately.

But what I saw at the vigil was also strength—community, compassion, and people showing up for one another when words aren’t enough.

The images I’m sharing are quiet moments from that night—candles, flowers, tears, and the love this community wrapped around these families. Please take a moment to hold them in your heart.

To the families grieving: we are holding you close.
And for sweet Maya—please keep fighting. We are praying for healing, for comfort, and for the day she comes home.

To everyone who organized this vigil—thank you, thank you for your work, dedication, and care in bringing the community together, and for letting me be part of something so meaningful.

My heart is shattered for the community of Tumbler Ridge today.

As a photographer, I’ve shared so many beautiful moments in your town — engagements, families, laughter, milestones. Tumbler Ridge has always felt like a place full of warmth, strength, and close-knit love. To know that such unimaginable tragedy has touched your community breaks my heart beyond words.

I am holding every student, family, first responder, and educator in my thoughts and prayers. I am grieving with you from afar and standing with you in spirit. May this community lean on one another in the days ahead, and may love surround those who need it most right now.

Christmas morning looks a little different for us this year—everyone is under the weather, so gifts were opened ahead of time. Still doing my best to make it a special day for my sick kiddos. Sending warm holiday wishes to you and yours, with hopes for rest, love, and gentle moments. 🎄❤️ Happy Holidays from my fur babies to yours as well. ☺️
