I have neglected this page due to other activities but am really excited about upcoming potential regarding activities. I've had several issues with current drones or RPAs per current definitions including the Solo and DJI S900 drone that will be subject of future posts but since new year, time to make new announcement

Really excited about two new additions to the RotoScapes fleet! A Phantom 4 Advanced and Mini Mavic!

I passed both the Basic (flights in uncontrolled or Class G airspace) and Advanced (flight in Controlled Airspace) Transport Canada online exams for RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft aka "drones" last June once new rules were law

However, beside the advance RPA certificate, to fly in controlled airspace you also need a Transport Canada certified drone/RPA and pass a flight test by a TC certified inspector at a cost of $400 or more.

I picked up a Phantom 4 Advanced, early last spring, which is certified by TC for operation, but until it make economical sense to fly consistently in controlled airspace since various approvals are required that may take time like ATC approvals, I will use for the camera and vision features of the P4 Advanced.

However, loophole exists regarding DJI's Mini Mavic which weighs in at under the 250 gram limitation for regulation by Transport Canada (as well they don't regulate RPA activities inside buildings or mines).

There is still a requirement to operate any RPA under the
250 g limitation in a responsible manner according to the CARs (Canadian Air Regulations).

I still have to activate and set up the MM, so will document any issues with that process but checking forums, it appears to be a winner.
