This is an AI-generated picture, but it represents a project I’ve been thinking about for at least a few years now, and one that I hope to eventually use as inspiration to actually secure in real life.
A lot of photographers travel across oceans and continents chasing once-in-a-lifetime images and dramatic landscapes, but I keep thinking that with enough planning, guidance, orientation, patience, and probably many failed attempts, maybe I can capture my own “great white whale” photograph much closer to home.
The vision would be to photograph a Boeing 747 or a cargo aircraft taking off from the Greater Moncton International Airport during the exact positioning of a full moonrise aligned directly with the runway. The idea of seeing the aircraft lifting into the sky with the full moon perfectly framed behind it is something I can’t get out of my mind.
I know it would take an incredible amount of timing, weatheer monitoring, runway calculations, moon alignment planning, and a lot of luck, but I think that challenge is part of what makes photography so special.
One can dream.
