It's been a year since our last visit to Walt Disney World, and with winter still firmly entrenched here in Ontario, it seemed like a good time to revisit some photos that got missed. Nighttime is my favourite opportunity to photograph the parks, particularly with the attractions and landscape lit up in amazing colours and spectacular fireworks displays in the evening sky.

A female Northern Harrier dropped by for breakfast this morning. She appeared to be snacking on a rodent when I spotted her in the field behind our house. I managed to grab my camera and position myself just in time to catch her as she took off into the treeline. Harriers are commonly found flying low over open fields in search of prey. Males are greyish, while females and juveniles are a warmer brown.

Looking out over the vast maple forest of Algonquin Park at the peak of the colour change on a brilliant autumn morning. The fog had not lifted from the lakes and valleys as the light crept across the forest, with the sun rising behind the lookout to give a layered look. I had the entire lookout to myself on this perfect morning and lingered to watch the sunrise and enjoy the moment. This panoramic image is composed of 9 vertical frames taken handheld and stitched together in Photoshop.

The Fall of 2025 is winding down now as the days get colder and the colourful foliage fades away. Fall is my favourite time of year for landscape photography, and this year did not disappoint. Here's a final collection of some of my favourite images from a memorable season. Until next year!

The autumn colours were spectacular this year, despite getting off to a slow start. As we wind down the season, here’s a few fall scenes from our daily walking route. All were take on my iPhone during the golden hour before sunset. I’m impressed with the quality coming from an older model mobile device compare to my fancier but much heavier mirrorless camera, proving that the best camera for the job is the one you have with you! Thanks for looking.

A rainy fall afternoon in my new hometown of Port Hope, Ontario, along the Ganaraksa River, which passes through town. During the Fall, schools of salmon and trout swim up the rapids to spawn nearby, which draws families and fishermen to watch the event or try their luck.

Tip: rainy days are great for fall photos, ideally just after the rain, making the colours pop. A polarizing filter helps to enhance the colours even more and removes glare from the river and leaves, but don't overdo it!

Looking down into the colourful autumn canopy of trees from the top of a lookout in Algonquin Provincial Park. The maple forest is so vast in the Park that it can be hard to take in. I think searching out simpler compositions within the woodland gives a more intimate experience. The shimmering leaves in the strong wind created an almost painterly effect.

The Ragged Falls on the Oxtongue River is one of the most beautiful and powerful waterfalls in Ontario. The scramble out onto the rocks can be treacherous, but the view is breathtaking, particularly when draped in autumn colours.

The tricky part of photographing the falls near sunset is dealing with the wide dynamic range of light between the shadows in the gorge and the bright setting sun. I shot this with three frames, exposing for the highlights, mid-tones and shadows, and later blended them all together in Photoshop.
