It started on a softball field a few weeks ago, when a friend of mine asked if I would be interested in taking some pictures for a week for a fundraiser she was doing. At first I thought she was joking, and then she started to describe the week schedule and accommodations, and I quickly realized she was serious. I didn't think there was anyway I'd be able to go, but with help and support from my family and some good friends, I got my bags and gear ready.
I finished 8 days with Cops for Cancer - Tour de Rock and I do not know if I can yet find the words to describe this experience I was so fortunate to be apart of.
With open arms this wonderful team and support crew welcomed me into their family. Gracious to have someone willing to give up some time to spend on the road with them to help show the world what they have worked so hard for. To help show the story of Tour de Rock 2024, and the moments that they create along their 14 day ride down beautiful Vancouver Island.
Did I think I was the right person for this job? Absolutely not. But I've never been someone to say no to opportunity and have always loved lending a helping hand.
The love and support that I was shown was incredible. From the team, support crew, to the community members who opens their doors and kitchens to us. From the waves of strangers driving down the highway, to the heartfelt stories shared among our travels. Great friendships were formed, I will never forget this experience nor will I have the words to do it justice.
Tour de Rock, thank you for all of your efforts on this amazing fundraiser.
Thank you to my fellow media members who helped me jump into a job I didn't know the job description for. It was a great week with great company!
Thank you to my friend again for taking a chance on me, and believing I was right for the job.
Thank you Steve for the photo!
Riders, safe travels the rest of the ride. I'll see you at the finish line.
You are awesome, awesome, very awesome.
