A day in the African bush....
I've longed for 5 years to be surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush again. Africa is in my blood and it will stay there forever. Africa did not disappoint.
Even though we only saw 2 of the Big5, we were spoiled with some close-up encounters. The excitement when the kids spotted the lions will bring a smile to my face every time I think of it. Coming across large geckos and lizards had them giddy. (They are quite obsessed π) The car was brought to a halt with just as much gusto when a new bird was spotted, than any other exciting animal. Being close enough to an elephant to hear him chew, can silence the most rowdy of tourists.
There is a peace that comes over me when I sit quietly in the African bush. (Granted, moments of silence are hard to come by with 3 rambunctious boys surrounding me.) But I found my moments, and as much as I took photos, I also made mindful memories. Smelling the unique blend of African grasses, bush and dirt, feeling the warm breeze on my skin, and listening to familiar bird songs. Those moments are now tucked away in my heart, ready to be revisited. No photos needed β€
