Edmonton mothers have one thing in common with Edmonton city: resilience. The resilience to roll along no matter what Balzac Billy tells us in early February. The ability to weather false spring each year... and the sense of humour to survive the toughest moments.

This was a cold day in January. This mama and her family were braving the cold during the golden hour. When we have been experiencing so much thawing & freezing, it is much better to avoid the icy ravines.

Manchester Square was buzzing with energy during this session — blossoms out, colours popping, and this amazing single mama surrounded by her grown kids just having the best time together.

They showed up ready to laugh, ready to play, and ready to make memories in one of Edmonton’s prettiest little European-feeling corners. The teasing, the inside jokes, the way they naturally lifted each other up… it was everything I love about photographing families.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I adore being an Edmonton family photographer — real joy, real connection, and a whole lot of fun in a place as charming as Manchester Square.

I get asked often -- do you do graduation sessions at your Edmonton studio?

Yes, I do!

I love working with kids of all ages. And I have worked with many kids -- whether it is school photos, child actor headshots, kids at multigenerational family portraits, there is one thing I love about kids. They are brutally honest. I love that about kids!

I love incorporating kids' personalities into each session. This was such a fun and sweet kindergarten grad session at my studio! She was shy at first, but kids LOVE seeing the back of my camera. And soon, we were buddies until the hat was thrown!

When I look back at my older work, I realize how much I have evolved.

This styled workshop was the first workshop I had attended; it was a great introduction to the more editorial style of photography. I started incorporating elements of it (since then) to create my own mix of candid & editorial style.

I love photographing those in-between moments. The artsy candid. The romantic moments.

Let's talk details. Sometimes, a wedding timeline does not allow for an extensive editorial flat-lay (which I love!). However, it is still my job to capture the details that you have invested in -- the flowers, your rings.

I love how hands can tell a story. Fun fact: our hands can tell a lot about our emotions. If a person's shoulders are shrugged all the way up, he/she/they are nervous. Stiff fingers show sign of discomfort.

Soft hands are part of a compelling story-telling element. This was a romantic Pop Up Weddings YEG wedding. The wedding couple had a first look.

Cornerstone is such a beautiful venue!! The apple tree area was so romantic!

Sometimes, you gotta take the rein on that fluffy rain and make the best of it. If you saw my stories, you may have seen some little ravine adventures.

For me, when it came to taking advantage of the right moments, it was the remaining leaves in early November. Fall 2024 was such a busy season for me! I almost had forgotten about own family fall photos.

I may look cool like a cucumber when I have a camera in my hand -- but the truth is, I am an awkward deer in the headlights when someone points the camera at me.
(I cannot count how many times when I photograph events, guests ask to use my camera to take a photo of me -- and I look scared in those, ha ha)

Candid moments are often artfully directed. The camera captures our energy at that specific moment; we love the pictures because we remember how we FEEL. This is why working with photographers who can read our body language is so important.
