Eight months had past since I have been able to photograph the aurora. Due to all the rain, I had no idea what some of the backroads would be like, so it was somewhat of an adventure to drive unto the country roads. With the aurora dancing above, I quickly picked a random road to stop, hoping that I'm not going to get eaten alive. It's always hard to pick which images to post but these are some from July 3, starting at 11:30 AM to 1:30 AM.

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds gave Edmonton a last ceremonial flyover. These planes are being grounded at the end of this year.

Got back to Edmonton much later than what I had hoped to, so by the time I drove downtown, found parking, and made my way to a crowded viewing area, and set up, the fireworks were 3/4 over. I was late to the show, so posting these 10 days after the fact shouldn't matter😃.

On a gloomy day, late in the evening, I was in the process of setting up my camera & tripod, when suddenly this female Barred Owl started hooting. This was my first time recording an owl calling, and she rewarded me with three calls.
I apologies for the video shake at the beginning and the mic picking up my excited breathing.

This Red-necked Grebes share the incubation process. This grebe have just switched places with it's mate and is just about to lower itself unto the eggs. I'm assuming that the lighter color egg has recently been laid, and hasn't gone thru the process of been turned over and repositioned.

I heard that racoons were spotted at Whitemud Creek and now I have my own proof. I'm happy how these turned out, because due to the low light, I had to shoot these at 10,000 ISO.

Last week, this Great Horned owlet fell down from it's nest, which was 50 -60 feet high. Know as branching, Owlets are capable of climbing back up using their beak and talons, but it's not something that they will do right after falling. Dad was high in a tree observing the area, but due to coyotes, and other predators, being on the ground is not a safe place, especially as night is approaching. I can only imagine how scary it must have been for this youngster.
